Hello MES Families!
I hope you are all getting into the swing of things and settling into your new school routines! It's been a really wonderful few weeks around MES!
We have been very busy continuing to build strong routines and positive classroom environments. Students have also begun to show us what they know through various assessments and activities. This information will be used to develop plans and goals to ensure each child's success and growth throughout the year.
Thank you to all of your for setting yourself up in the PikMyKid app. The option to change your default dismissal plan will be turned off on Friday, September 20th. Please be sure that you've set the default plan for your child(ren) in the app by this date.
Take a look at the information below to stay up to date on all things happening around MES!
Take care,

Veggie Tasting Tuesday
Veggie Popsicles! What a great way to cool down during these last weeks of summer! On Tuesday your kiddo(s) had the opportunity to try a Carrot Pop! We combined cooked carrots with apple sauce, orange juice and ginger to make a delicious and refreshing treat to begin our Vegetable Tasting Tuesdays. Carrots are one of the best sources of vitamin A, which is good for your bones, teeth, vision and skin. It also has antioxidants that protect the cells in your body from daily damage. This orange root vegetable can also be red, yellow, purple. We hope you try this at home!
Recipe:
1 cup cooked carrots
1 cup of unsweetened applesauce
1 cup of orange juice
¾ teaspoon of fresh ginger, not dried (we used the minced ginger paste)
Mix it all together in a blender or food processor. It should have a little consistency. Pour into small plastic cups, add sticks, cover with plastic wrap, place in the freezer overnight and enjoy the next day!
WOW! MES Staff Shouts
We are so grateful for our awesome families at MES! And we know many of you have that same feeling about our MES staff and all that they do to support your child(ren) every day. Please use this form to submit a note, a celebration, or just some uplifting words to a staff member here at MES. We'd love to hear about those special moments and can't wait to share your message with that team member! Thank you!

Helping Hands Holiday Support
Dear Madeira Families,
As a service to the students and families of our community, the Helping Hands program is intended to facilitate Madeira’s ability to provide support for those of us in need through the school year. We understand that hardships can arise unexpectedly, and we know that there are many people in our town that very much want to help. Helping Hands is an effort to make the connections that help our community be a better place.
IF YOUR FAMILY NEEDS ASSISTANCE:
Families requesting assistance for Thanksgiving or for the Holidays, please reach out directly to your child’s school counselor and/or scan this QR code NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2024 if you are requesting Thanksgiving assistance. While we may not be able to cover every need, we will certainly make an effort to make the holiday season less stressful and more enjoyable for our community members in need. Throughout the process, be assured that procedures are in place to maintain the confidentiality and privacy of everyone involved.

The district-wide gift card collection will begin now and continue through December 8, 2024. Donations can be dropped off to any school building, or sent in with your student in an envelope addressed to a school counselor.
While all gift cards are accepted and appreciated, we are requesting gift cards from the following places:

Together, we are all Madeira Strong!
Sincerely,
Helping Hands

Birthday Book Club
Love books and birthdays? Celebrate your child's birthday by donating a book in honor of her/his birthday to the MES Media Center's library collection! This program is supported through our MES PTO. You simply select a book from a curated wishlist. You can buy the book from the Amazon wishlist or through our local Madeira Bookstore, the Bookshelf. Books will be sent directly to MES. Once the book arrives, a personalized birthday book sticker will be placed inside the cover honoring your child's donation and their birthday, and your child will be the first one to check out the new library book! This is a fun way to help enhance our school library collection while also celebrating your child's birthday! Please contact Jessica Johnston, MES PTO library liaison, j.elaine.west@gmail.com with questions.
