Fisher Family Update
October 16, 2026

Dear Fisher Families,
The Boosterthon “Fun Run” kicked off this week at Fisher School. You should have received information in backpacks this week and we sent home the lanyards earlier this week. Here’s how it works: over the next week, students will learn about teamwork, fitness, and character through fun daily videos and activities. Family and friends can support students by making pledges for minutes run during the Fun Run event (30-35). On the big day, students will run, jog, or walk laps outside while cheering on their classmates—it’s always one of the most exciting days of the year!
Students can earn fun prizes for their participation and pledges, with new prizes unlocked as they reach different pledge levels. There will also be class and schoolwide rewards for reaching fundraising goals—so every student’s effort counts! Please be aware, there is NO donation required, every student will get to participate on the day of the run. The school earns incentive prizes on the percentage of students registered. There is more detailed information in the section below.
Have a great weekend,
Brian

Math Update
Hello Families,
This month in Math Corner, we will explore the importance of play in learning math.
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” ~ Fred Rogers
When children play math games, they aren't just having fun; they are practicing strategy, problem-solving, and critical thinking in an active, low-stress environment. Game-based learning also builds vital social-emotional skills like turn-taking, collaboration, following rules, and navigating healthy competition.
In Walpole math classrooms, play is everywhere! Whether our students are solving ST Math puzzles, playing Bridges workstation games, or participating in Number Corner routines, they are constantly applying concepts, making connections, and extending their thinking. As they play, students are prompted to explain their reasoning and rephrase their strategies—deepening their understanding of the math behind the game.
Parents often ask how they can support their child’s math progress and development. Playing board and card games at home is a wonderful way to strengthen these core skills as a family. (Digital math games offer great benefits too, when balanced in moderation!)
Check out our Family Math site includes a whole section on games that support your child’s growth as a mathematician.

Please plan to use Door 14, the regular drop-off and pickup location for students in grades 2–5, instead.
Please see the picture for reference. Thank you for your cooperation!
Scenes From Fisher
There has been a lot of great things happening in STEM lately. This past week, students celebrated the uniqueness of their names after reading the story That’s Not My Name! During class, some students used Brainflakes to make the letters in their name. Here are some of their creations!
Students in Mrs. Fomenko/Brogan’s class have been working hard in math on measurement concepts and story problems
The 1st grade had a fun "exploring Walpole" field trip

Doctor's Note for PE: Required if a student misses PE for more than one week. The note must include the exact restriction and its duration.

🌳 PE and Recess Guidelines During Healing
Active Play Restrictions: Students with documented head injuries, stitches, or protective coverings (casts, splints, air boots) cannot participate in PE or active recess.
Quiet Recess Option: With the nurse's permission, students can participate in "quiet outdoor recess" (sitting outside at a designated area to read, play board games, or do puzzles with friends).
Indoor Recess: If a student cannot stay safely in the quiet area, the principal and nurse will arrange for them to stay indoors.
