Principal's Message
Dear Garden Road Families,
The heat has been the news here this week! We make sure all of our students and staff remain safe during extreme heat. Once the temperature is 90 degrees we take our students inside so they will not be overheated. This week, all lunch recesses were indoors, and on the hottest days, morning recess was indoors as well. Next week, we should be able to go outside during our lunch and recess times.
Poway Honda Delivers Smiles
This week we had a wonderful surprise from Poway Honda! Their employees surprised our teachers with a beautiful bag of school supplies! Each bag had a bag of fidgets, wipes, hand sanitizer and several other supplies. The bag itself was beautiful and inspiring, and each teacher received a handwritten note! Our teachers were so touched by this outpouring of support from our community. Thank you, Poway Honda! See the story below!
Safety Summit on September 9
Please join me on September 9th at 5:30 pm in the MPR for a Safety Summit. We will talk about how we are keeping our students and staff safe, and how our community of parents has helped us improve our safety procedures. We will be joined by our school resource officer as well. He supports us in ensuring we have a safe campus.
Garden Road PBIS and Eagle Awards
Each month, we study a habit in Leader in Me. This month we are studying Be Proactive. Starting in October, teachers will recognize a student or two students demonstrating one of the 7 Habits in Leader in Me. This year, classrooms in TK-3rd grade will choose one student to receive an Eagle Award which will be presented at the next Friday Flag. Two students per class will be chosen in grades 4 and 5 because their class sizes are larger. We want to recognize students who are demonstrating leadership and one of the seven habits. Classroom teachers may choose to have other recognitions within the class. There is a flyer below about the different habits we study each month and the Eagle Awards.

Message from our SSA, Mrs. Elms
Guess Who? It’s your Student Services Assistant here at Garden Road, Mrs. Elms, and I was hoping I could Trouble you for some help for a recess Operation. I don’t want to take a Monopoly of your time, but I have been straining my Cranium for some fun alternate recess activities this year, and I think I have a Clue! Do you have Uno too many board or card games taking up space in your Life? Please consider donating any gently used, age appropriate, games for us to play here at school! (Sorry for all of the puns. I know they can be a bit Taboo, but I hope they will be worth the Risk.)
Mrs. MacLeod and I are also working together on some creative project ideas and would appreciate art supply donations as well. If you have any crafting beads, rainbow loom bands, craft paper, stickers, markers, paint pens, etc., we would greatly appreciate them!

Running Club Information
We’re thrilled to kick off Running Club for the new school year starting Wednesday, September 9! Running Club meets every morning at 7:25 AM, students enter through the MPR gate.
This year, we are encouraging families to register online. Please use the QR or click this link for registration. We’re asking that all students register in advance so we can collect parent contact information and reduce printing costs. Lanyards will only be printed for students who are registered. Registration is due by August 31st. Parent volunteers will scan the lanyards each morning so students can earn fun prizes as they rack up miles.
Prizes in the past have included:
Lanyards
Bracelets
Shirts for reaching 50 and 100 miles
Beanies
Socks
Water bottles
For TK & Kindergarten: Running Club will take place during school on Wednesdays and Fridays with their classes. No registration is required for TK/K students.
We’re also looking for volunteers to help scan lanyards and cheer on the runners! If you’d like to help, please contact Bethany Wilde at bethanymwilde@gmail.com. Volunteers must be cleared through the office to be on campus.
Thank you for supporting Running Club!
