Principal Prather's Post
Dear Families,
I hope you and your loved ones are doing well. I am grateful for the partnership we share and for all you do to support your child’s learning. Below are a few important updates, celebrations from this week, and additional information to keep you informed and connected.
Important Announcements
- Scholastic Book Fair — Happening all week in our school library. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to explore new books and find something they love.
- Special Parent Shopping Time — Wednesday morning, 7:45–11:30 AM. Parents are welcome to visit the fair during this time.
- No School for Students — There will not be school for students on Wednesday, December 10. Please plan accordingly.
Action items:
- If you plan to visit the Book Fair during the parent-only time, please arrive between 7:45 and 11:30 AM on Wednesday.
- If your child will bring money to purchase books, please send it with them on the day your child’s class visits the fair (teachers will share class visit times).
Celebrations from the Week
- Our Winter Scholastic Book Fair is up and running — it was a delight to see students exploring books during today’s quick preview.
- All classes had a short preview today; teachers will schedule visits later this week for students who bring money to buy items.
- FastBridge assessment window opened this week — teachers have begun assessments to check student progress from this fall.
- Please encourage your child to take their time and try their best during assessments.
- Remind them not to stress — these checks help us better support each student’s learning.
We are so proud of our students for engaging with books and for approaching assessments with effort and care. Thank you for supporting your child as they participate in these important learning opportunities.
Additional Information
- Communication: Teachers will send class-specific information about Book Fair visit times and any classroom needs. Please check your email or your child’s communication folder for these details.
- Volunteer Opportunities: If you’d like to help at the Book Fair or assist with other classroom activities, please contact our PTO. We appreciate any time families can share.
- Questions or Concerns: If you have questions about the Book Fair, FastBridge assessments, or anything else, please reach out — we’re here to help.
We are grateful for your ongoing support in making our school a welcoming, learning-focused community. Your involvement makes a meaningful difference for our students.
Thank you for all you do. We look forward to continuing our work together and sharing more good news soon.
Warmly,
Ms. Prather
Winter is Here!
Winter Gear Reminder
As we head into winter, please remember to send your child with their winter gear! 🧣🧤🥾⛄🧥
All students will go outside even if it's snowing, as long as the real feel temperature is above 10 degrees. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Winter Layers: It's best to send your child with winter layers and gear just in case!
- Labeling: Please label all of your child's winter wear with their name. This helps us return lost items to the correct students.
- Independence Practice: Encourage your child to practice getting ready independently for the winter weather.
-Families may not request an alternative recess plan unless they have a doctor's note identifying a medical reason a student cannot go outside.
Scholastic Book Fair
Thank you for your continued support of Woods Lake Elementary. We’re excited to share that the Scholastic Book Fair is open all week — a great opportunity to purchase new books for your child(ren) or find other fun, interesting gifts.
Teachers will sign up for shopping times so students can browse and purchase items during the week. Parents may send students to school with money, or choose the convenient option of adding funds to an e‑wallet via the Scholastic Book Fair website.
If you have any questions about times, payment options, or wish to volunteer, please contact the school. Thank you again for supporting reading and our school
