April 2025 Newsletter
Spring is Here!
Welcome back from Spring Break and Eid Mubarak to those who celebrate. It's hard to believe we are in April and we are in the final stretch of the school year. So many things are happening, but we cannot forget to follow our Bronco expectations of acting safely, accepting responsibility and showing respect.
Outdoor Line-Up
Now that we are over the winter slump (hopefully), students will begin lining up in their outdoor line up spaces. See the map for a reminder of where your child's class should line up. We will only use our indoor line up procedure during inclement weather, such as rain.
Teachers report for supervision duty at 8:50am. Students should not arrive at school earlier than that unless they are eating breakfast. The first bell rings at 8:55am and teachers will begin walking students into the building so that they can begin instruction promptly at 9:00am.
We appreciate your support in making sure that your child is at school on time
MSTEP Testing
Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade have started MSTEP testing. Some helpful reminders include:
1. Prioritize Sleep and Healthy Meals
Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep before each testing day and starts the morning with a healthy breakfast. Rest and nutrition help with focus and stamina during testing.
2. Keep the Morning Stress-Free
Try to keep the morning routine calm and unhurried. Arrive at school on time so your child can feel settled and confident before the test starts.
3. Encourage Without Pressure
Remind your child that the test is just one way to show what they’ve learned. Offer positive encouragement and remind them to do their best—perfection isn’t expected.
4. Avoid Scheduling Appointments
Try not to schedule doctor’s appointments or other disruptions during testing days. Consistent attendance helps kids perform their best and avoids the stress of makeup tests.
Attendance
While we understand that there may be days when your child is unable to attend due to illness, we want to stress how important it is for your child to be on time to school. Please review this document to understand when to keep your child at home due to an illness
We would greatly appreciate also if parents did their best to ensure appointments and/or vacations are not scheduled during school days as to not interrupt instructional time. The office must be informed if travel plans will impact the school year.
If you need to sign your child out for a doctor’s appointment, please contact the school in the morning and inform the office/teacher so we can prepare your child for you and avoid classroom disruptions. Thank you for your support and understanding!
If your child is sick, absences can be reported through Parent Connect or by calling the office at 313-827-4700.
Traffic Safety
For the safety of all, it is very important to remember the following during arrival and dismissal:
- The parking lot is one way in on Driscoll and one way out on Mercury.
- Cars should be parked in front of the school--this is a bus zone and therefore needs to remain clear.
- In the morning, the lane in front of the school is for quick drop off. Cars should pull up to the cross walk and let children out quickly on the curbside to prevent any accidents.
- In the case that you need to escort your child, you must park in the parking lot, not in front of the school.
- Please cross at the crosswalk. This is a good habit to instill while children are young.
- At dismissal, again park in the parking lot and avoid crossing in between buses as this is a dangerous habit.
iReady March Madness Finals
Congratulations to the following classes on winning their grade level brackets for our iReady March Madness Challenge:
- Ms. Musa's 1st grade
- Ms. Haque's 2nd grade
- Ms. Shaibi's 4th grade
1st grade classes earned extra gym time while our 2nd and 4th grade winners earned a pool party!
Congratulations to all and keep up the great work!
Tobacco Free School Grounds
A gentle reminder that Michigan's Public Act 140 of 1993 mandates that tobacco use is prohibited in public school buildings, including the parking lot, at all times.
We kindly ask for your full cooperation in adhering to our tobacco-free policy. This collective effort helps us provide a healthier environment and supports our mission to foster effective learning and student success.
