The Weekly Highlander
Volume #10
A Message from the Principal
Sunday, November 3rd is Dino Dash. The Hewes cross country team will be running at 8:20 am in the middle school race. Students and their families should meet in front of Dicks Sporting Goods at 7:40 am for a group photo and last-minute instructions from the coaches. If your student is on the Cross Country team, more information will be coming from the coaching staff on what to wear and how students will receive their bibs for the race.
Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 3rd, marking the shift back to standard time. Clocks will fall back one hour, giving us an extra hour of sleep on Saturday night. This is also a good time to check the batteries in your smoke detectors.
This month we have ways for families to get involved in the Hewes Community. On Wednesday, November 6th, we will be holding a Veteran's Day assembly at 9:30 am, and parents, families, and Veterans are invited to attend. ASB is also sponsoring the holiday food drive, with donations going to a Tustin organization to feed families at Thanksgiving. The flyer in this newsletter lists the items requested from students in each grade level.
Please stay connected to Hewes by checking our website and following us on Instagram @heweshighlanders for the latest information and news.

What is Measure J?
As election season draws near, you may see signs for "Measure J" in and around Tustin Unified. In case you ae wondering, Measure J is a school bond measure on the November 5, 2024 ballot for Tustin Unified School District (TUSD). It seeks voter approval to issue up to $261 million in bonds. The funds would be used to repair and upgrade aging school facilities, modernize classrooms and labs, improve safety and security systems, and update infrastructure like HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. The measure also includes provisions for citizen oversight and audits to ensure that all funds are locally controlled and used effectively. For more information, please navigate to our district website HERE.
