Dear North Middle School Families,

Beginning October 15, we will be strictly enforcing our "No-Cell Bell-to-Bell" policy during school hours. Under this policy, personal cell phones and other devices not owned by Berkeley County Schools must be turned off (or muted) and kept put away from the start of the school day until the final bell. A device is considered active if it makes noise, vibrates, or is being handled or used by a student during instructional time (including lunch/recess).

To ensure building-wide consistency, the following procedures will be followed if a device is

active during school hours:

  • First Violation: An administrator or School Support Officer (SSO) will collect the device and hold it securely in the main office. The student may retrieve their device from the office at the end of the school day.
  • Second & Subsequent Violations: An administrator or SSO will collect the device and lock it in the main office. Office staff will contact a parent or guardian, and a parent or guardian must pick up the device in person from the main office. The device will remain safely secured in the office until it is retrieved by an adult.

We ask that you please review these expectations with your child before Thursday morning, October 15, 2026. If you need to reach your child during the school day for an urgent matter, please contact the main office directly, and our team will get a message to them promptly.

Thank you for your partnership and support as we work together to keep our classrooms focused on learning. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Sincerely,

Joe Livesay

Principal, North Middle School
