Clark MS/HS Newsletter

Hi everyone,
This past week our juniors participated in fall planning days and we also had students attend the Huron Scrubs camp. We believe opportunities such as this help our students to plan for their future. It has been exciting to see our students come back from activities such as this motivated about the career options available to them. We believe in our mission to "engage and educate each student academically and socially in order that he or she may reach their potential as a productive member of society." There is no doubt that our kids are impacting our community in a positive way. Many of the opportunities they have available to them are because we as a community invest in them in big ways. We are thankful for the partnerships formed along the way.
Next week will be the last full week of quarter one. The last official day is Monday, October 21st. Parent- teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October 24th. We will not mail out report cards until after parent-teacher conferences. Our hope is to give report cards to parents when they attend parent/teacher conferences, but if a parent is not able to attend, we will send a copy home on Monday, October 28th. Also, please stay tuned on a possible adjustment to our parent/teacher conference start time and end time. Much is dependent on if we do end up hosting a football playoff game. If we do host this event, we will adjust and get this correspondence out as soon as possible.
As mentioned in last week's newsletter, we are striving to improve our overall attendance and tardies for our students. We has seen a slight increase in the last few weeks. Thank you for visiting with your child about the importance of getting to school and to class on time. I am hopeful that our tardies across both the MS and HS will continue to decrease.

DID YOU KNOW?
1. Students should miss no more than 9 days of school each year to stay engaged, successful and on track to graduation.
2. Frequent absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with school work, dealing with a bully or facing some other difficulty.
3. By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school.
4. By 9th grade, attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores. Missing 10%, or 2 days a month, over the course of the school year, can affect a student’s academic success.

Tardy Policy
If a student is not in the classroom they are assigned to when the bell rings, they are considered tardy. A tardy will be given if the student arrives after the bell rings but within the first fifteen minutes of class. If they arrive after fifteen minutes of class, the student will be considered absent for the class period. A student with 6 cumulative tardies in a quarter will earn 1 detention. Additional detentions will be assigned for every 3 detentions earned thereafter at increments of 9 and 12. A parent meeting will be held if a student has 12 cumulative tardies in a quarter with the option to develop a student intervention plan. Tardies will start over at the beginning of each quarter.
