Dear Families,

We are off to a great start! Students are adjusting well to school routines and building relationships with peers and staff.

To prevent classroom spills and disruptions, please remind students that open-tab cans and coffees or specialty drinks in plastic cup containers must be finished before entering the classroom or leaving the cafeteria breakfast area. We strongly encourage students to bring reclosable water bottles instead.

Thank you for your support!

Principal Vibar

Kleenex/Tissues: Thank you to the families that have dropped off kleenex/tissues to the main office. Please keep the donations coming as the seasons are changing. Thank you!

School Bus Safety & Expectations: We would like to remind families of bus riding expectations. Saint Paul Public Schools provides transportation services to students who are attending Saint Paul Public Schools and other programs, or who are attending non-public, and some charter schools that are located within the City of Saint Paul. Transportation is provided for students who meet eligibility requirements contained in the Board of Education Policy 707.00 Eligibility for Student Transportation. The District is responsible for the student supervision as soon as they enter the bus in the morning and until they leave the bus, or are released to a parent/guardian. Bus drivers and school staff are responsible for teaching, modeling, and reinforcing positive behavior expectations to all students. Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring that their children know and understand these standards of conduct. The bus and bus stops are an extension of the school. Misbehavior on the bus could lead to consequences at the school as well. If you would like more bus safety and expectations information please visit the SPPS transportation website.

This year's library book checkouts have been amazing. Our students have come in eager and excited to read and have already checked out 1,600 books in three weeks! Please ask your scholar what they are reading and have a quick conversation about the book. This leads to more literary thinking and reading connections.

Our students have also come in with so many great suggestions for books to add to the library. My suggestion box is flooded! Please ask your scholar what books that they would like to see in the library and encourage them to come in and put in a suggestion.

Have a great weekend, Mr. Sheridan-the librarian

Otter Sports!

As we wrap up our team selection process, I want to take a moment to speak directly to all of our students who stepped forward and gave their best during tryouts.

First and foremost, congratulations to those who made the teams!

We are so excited for you and proud of the hard work, courage, and commitment you showed throughout the tryout process. Making a team is something to be proud of, and we hope you enjoy this moment. We can't wait to see you grow, compete, and make wonderful memories! Making a team is an accomplishment worth celebrating. We hope you take pride in this moment, but also remember that being a teammate comes with responsibility. Support one another, work hard, demonstrate good sportsmanship, and represent your school with pride both on and off the field/court.

I also want to take a moment for the students whose names were not on the final roster.

We understand how much it can hurt to work hard, take a chance, and not hear the news you were hoping for. Your disappointment is valid, and we hope you know that this decision does not define your talent, your potential, or who you are. I know many of you practiced, hoped, dreamed, and gave everything you had. Please don't let this one decision make you question yourself or what you are capable of. Not making this team does not mean you aren't talented. It does not mean you didn't work hard enough. And it certainly does not mean you don't belong.

But to every student who tried out, I want to say thank you. Thank you for being brave enough to try. Thank you for putting yourself out there. Thank you for caring enough to chase something that mattered to you. To our students who made the team: celebrate your accomplishment, but remember to be kind. You never know how hard it may have been for someone else to hear that they didn't make it. Be the teammate and classmate who lifts others up.

Every team has their first game this week; schedules can be found on Bound. Remember to bring water bottles, tennis shoes, and have fun. All students will ride a bus to away games together but can leave with families after they let their coach know.

Uniforms have been handed out, they are to be returned at the end of the season. Lost or damaged uniforms will result in a fee.

*We are looking for interested parents willing to volunteer their time and help with practices. Please reach out to Katrina (katrina.haukom@spps.org) or Nell (lenell.binford@spps.org) if you're interested.
