The Kentucky State University MIGHTY MARCHING THOROBRED pay a visit to Dr. Martin Luther King College Prep High School. "The Soul Train of Chicago". Thank you Dr. Chism Band head band director & band staff for inspiring King College Prep Band program. "You guys were amazing" Andrew Lee Senior KCP Tuba player.

Carsyn Hayes "Senior IMHS President Percussion section Leader""

While talking, the snare drum section leader asked different questions about me and what it is like to be a section leader in high school. He then shared how Kentucky was not his first choice in school, but once he got there he loved it. The director and previous section leaders made it a welcoming space for a growing band. Kentucky State’s band director also spoke to some students and explained his wish to grow the program and provide opportunities to more students from King.

Nevayah Moore "Senior IMHS Treasure Baritone section Leader""

While speaking to the euphonium player from Kentucky State she gave me some good advice about my breathing technique and some techniques that would help me play clearer and better. Coming from the only girl euphonium player from KSU she gave me some real good advice on my instrument and information about her section.

Andrew Lee "Senior KCP Sousaphone Player"

Some advice I gained from this experience was. “Your education is more important than your extracurricular activities. Make sure your classes are in order before going to practice. You are there to get your degree as well as contribute to the band.” KSU’s Tuba line made it very clear to be a student first. Then be a Might Marching Thorobred.

LaNia Powell "Junior KCP Snare Player"

While listening to the Percussion Director, I learned that KSU gives out numerous band scholarships and that Juniors can contact them next year to learn more about them. After interacting with members of their drumline I learned that some people have been playing for over half their lives, and that all it takes is determination and community. Lastly, he told us that we're doing great and to keep practicing.

Deshawn Johnson "Senior KCP Trombone Player"

In this photo, I learned how that even though this college band didn’t have as much people as they wanted, they still worked hard to sound amazing. I also learned that they go to travel a lot as a band and played at a lot of different places. Talking to them widened my view on what’s next for me after high school, specifically towards band.

Pre Football Classic Friday September 20, 2024

Lindblom VS. King 48-0

Halftime show: Kentucky State University | Marching Band

The Thorobred Marching Band

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask King). They blew past the Lindblom Eagles, posting a 48-0 victory at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Jaguars just coasted through the last quarter.

King's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jamar Lewis, who rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Rozell Hampton was another key receiver, picking up 63 receiving yards and two touchdowns. -MAX PREP.

Congratulations to King College Football Team and A.D & Coach Assad Abdullah

Chicago Football Classic 2024

The Chicago Football Classic was a fun experience. Watching all the high school and middle school bands perform was fun and exciting. Both colleges KSU and MU marching bands performances was amazing. We had the pleasure of witnessing two awesome collegiate field shows from both sides of the field. We all enjoyed experiencing a college football game. The game was great to watch and experience too!. - Nevayah Moore KCP Senior Euphonium Player
