Cole Miners' Dig

Principal's Notes
We had so many wonderful events and culminating activities this week! Grade 3 traveled to the Jacobs Farmhouse and the Norwell Town Hall while grade 5 headed to Boston for the Duck Boat tour of the city. 4th grade held their Biography Fair and did a phenomenal job sharing their learning with many visitors. 2nd graders hosted the Community Meeting and taught us about Flag Day. Kindergarten students shared their amazing Habitat Day projects with families and other students. We are so proud of all of our students and their learning!
Norwell Schools recognized many teachers on Tuesday during the Celebration of Success. Many teachers and staff were recognized for years of service (over 10 years). Five Cole School teachers earned Professional Teaching Status for successfully completing three years of teaching in Norwell. Congratulations to Neve Browne, Shauna Howell, Noelle Lynch, Laura O'Malley, and Lauren Sokolowski!
Class placements for the 2026-2027 school year are now finalized. Students will have the exciting opportunity to meet their new teacher and classmates during Move Up Day on Monday, June 22nd. To ensure a smooth start to the school year, no placement changes will be made after this date. We encourage families to prepare children for the possibility that they may have a different teacher or classroom friends than they expected. Each new school year brings wonderful opportunities to form new friendships, learn from different teaching styles, and grow as learners. This transition is an excellent chance to help your child develop resilience and flexibility—valuable life skills that will serve them well throughout their educational journey.
After today, there are just 5 days of school left and we need your help to close down the building for the year and plan for next year. Please give your attention to these matters if they apply to your child or family.
1. Please check your child's lunch account and pay any remaining balances.
2. Return any library books to the library.
3. Check the lost and found by the cafeteria. Items will be donated on Monday, June 22nd.
4. If your child is not returning to Cole School next year for any reason, please contact the office so we can begin the transfer process and account accurately for placement.

Just a reminder that if your child has medication in the health office. Please make arrangements to pick up your child's medication before the end of the day on June 22th.
If your child is going to have the same medication back in my office in the fall, please note that you will need to get a new medication order, Asthma Action Plan, or Allergy Action Plan for the 2026-2027 school year.
Postural screenings will be conducted for 5th grade on Monday 6/15 and Tuesday 6/16. An email explaining the details was sent out this week regarding proper attire- a sports bra/ bathing suit for the screening. Additionally, if you would like to exempt your child from this screening, please notify me in writing.

Specialists' Scoop
This week K-2 showed off their skills of passing, kicking, running, and kindness in games of soccer. Grades 3-5 had fun throwing, catching, running and hitting in games of wiffle ball.
Dear Families,
It's hard to believe that we are just one week away from the last day of school! As everyone gets ready for summer, our library books are ready for a well-deserved vacation, too. Before they can rest on the shelves for the summer, though, they need to find their way back home to the library!
This is a reminder that all library books were due back to the school library on Friday, June 12. If your child still has a library book at home, please return it as soon as possible.
We appreciate your help in checking bookshelves, bedrooms, backpacks, cars, and any other favorite hiding spots for overdue books. Our goal is to have all library books returned and ready for next year's readers.
If a library book has been lost or cannot be located, it will need to be replaced. Families may either provide a new replacement copy of the book or send in a $15 check payable to the PTO. Please include the title of the lost book in the memo line.
If you believe a book has already been returned or if you have any questions about your child's library account, please contact me at lora.rantz@norwellschools.org.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter and for helping us care for our school library collection. Your support ensures that our books are ready to welcome a new group of readers in the fall!

It's not a long survey - we promise! But, your input will help us plan thoughtfully for next year’s events, programs, fundraising, communication, and volunteer opportunities.
Whether you were at every event or just barely keeping up with it all - your input matters!
And as a thank you, anyone who includes their name at the end of the survey will be entered into a raffle to win free PTO dues for one child for the 2026–2027 school year.

2. A Message from our "Chief of Dads"
Hi Norwell Dads,
As a parent of both a 2nd and 4th grader at Cole Elementary, I've noticed a real imbalance in involvement between moms and dads when it comes to PTO and related activities. After meeting with Claudine Schrock (INCOMING PTO PRESIDENT) and several other PTO LEADERSHIP members, we are excited to announce the formation of the "Dad Squad."
The concept is simple. Fill out the form below and raise your hand for the chance to chip in on all things PTO, including event setup and breakdown. Our goal is to have the group on call when extra hands are needed to help execute the events organized by the PTO.
In addition, we'll be planning one or two fundraising events focused on Norwell dads, and we want your input. Options for event types are included in the survey link below.
This is a relatively low individual commitment with full flexibility on how much you take on. Your involvement will make a real difference for the PTO and the broader Cole School community. We hope you'll consider joining!
