Wasco Expectation - Being Safe Wasco Expectation - Being Safe

During the month of September, our staff will focus on our expectation to Be Safe. We believe students need to feel safe, both physically and emotionally, in order to fully access learning, build friendships, and navigate their emotions.

Throughout the month, classrooms will take time to explicitly teach, re-teach, and reinforce safe behaviors across a variety of settings and situations. All staff will provide specific, timely feedback to help students develop the skills they need to be safe and feel safe. This includes helping students understand what to do when they have a concern, how to seek help from a trusted adult, and how to report situations that may make them or others feel unsafe.

Our goal is to create a school community where every student understands what it means to Be Safe and feels confident knowing that the adults around them are there to support them.

Discussion Questions for Home Discussion Questions for Home

  • What does “Be Safe” look like, sound like, and feel like at school?
  • What are some things you can do if you see someone who is being unsafe or needs help?
  • Who are the trusted adults at school you can talk to if you have a concern?
  • What would you do if something happened at school that made you feel worried, uncomfortable, or unsafe?
  • How can you ask for help or report a concern if you don’t know what to do?

School Reminders School Reminders

  • Please try to label your child's belongings so that if things get misplaced we can help reunite them with their things.
  • Provide reminders to your child that candy and gum are not permitted at school. We are promoting healthy snacks throughout our school day.
  • School arrival should be between 8:50 - 9:00 to ensure your child can unpack, connect with others, and be ready to learn for the 9:05 bell. If they cannot be in their seat at 9:05 they will be marked tardy.
  • Email your child's classroom teacher if there are changes for afternoon dismissal. We cannot take the word of our young students as they can sometimes miss information.

Acadience Testing Acadience Testing

This year district 303 is launching a new assessment for our K-3 students, Acadience. This assessment is a foundational skills assessment in Math and Reading, and will help our staff understand more specific skills our students need to grow. This assessment will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, and should take about 45-60 minutes total.
