Every Wednesday during Advisory, your student will have the opportunity to watch a video from the Counseling Department that focuses on a specific topic. If your student is absent or is unable to watch during the advisory period, the video can be viewed on our TWHS Video Archive website, posted on the TWHS website and here: https://sites.google.com/conroeisd.net/twhs-video-archives/home.

We know there are many options for tutors in our community. However, we strongly encourage your student to build a relationship with their teacher and seek their guidance when they need assistance or clarification. Our teachers are readily available before or after school for tutoring. In many cases, students also utilize peer tutoring through many of our service organizations. In addition, evening tutorials are available at the Senior Campus. Our staff is always here to help answer questions and address concerns. We also provide a list of tutors, some current or former teachers, on our website. You can also find it here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1s-LtJ3--mV1KL8CV9OlvKXZKw0sWq3_qau_id5WjWxw/edit?usp=sharing

RYLA: RYLA is one of the premier leadership development programs for young adults in Texas. It is an exciting, intensive experience where any high school Junior can develop their leadership skills and their commitment to lead with a high level of integrity while having fun, making connections, building teamwork and developing communication skills.

The RYLA Conference this year will take place January 9-11, 2026. It is conducted by Rotarians of Rotary District 5910. The camp will be held at the Pineywoods Baptist Encampment, located on US Hwy 287 in Woodlake, Texas; five miles east of Groveton and 12 miles west of Corrigan. The facility includes air-conditioned housing, dining facilities, meeting rooms, and many acres of forest/wildlife areas.

There is no cost to the school or student. Award recipients should expect to receive conference information directly from the District 5910 RYLA Committee with full details about the event. Rotary Club of The Woodlands will provide bus transportation to Pineywoods Baptist Encampment. Students will arrive at the bus departure site no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026. Camp ends at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2026.

Please have eligible, interested students apply using the attached link. If you have questions please contact Jane Iribarren, School Counselor, 936-709-1224.

THE WOODLANDS ART TRUST: Have you ever noticed the 71 works of art by established Texas artists that are permanently displayed in the hallways at school? This is The Woodlands High School Art Trust Collection and we are celebrating our 15th year! This collection of art works has been selected and purchased by our students over the past 14 years. Each year we add new works to the collection and our next selection process has begun. We invite established Texas artists who have had work accepted into a juried show and are at least 22 years old to submit works to be considered for acquisition in 2025. Our student committees are meeting now to determine which artworks will be considered for acquisition into our collection for 2025.

By the time you read this, our student committee will have narrowed down the submissions to 12-15 artworks that will be voted on by the entire student body in mid-November. Posters of the artworks will be on view at school in November and the original pieces will be displayed in the cafeteria just prior to voting. The students will purchase as many as possible of the pieces that receive the most votes on November 13. We are having a public reception for the artists at the school on November 7 from 1:30-3 pm in the front foyer of the main campus. All the artworks will be on display and everyone is invited to come by to see the works and visit with the artists.

The artworks are purchased through funds set aside by Student Council from the Homecoming Dance, however, the framing, lighting and conservation of these pieces need funding. Consider helping with that funding and show your support for The Woodlands High School Art Trust by joining our "One Hundred Friends of Art." Our goal is to have 100 arts supporters make an annual donation to support our cause. Donations are tax deductible and start as low as $10!! Visit our website to make a contribution: www.twhsat.org.

The Woodlands High School Art Trust (TWHSAT) a 501(c)3 organization, was established in 2011 to help maintain, conserve and display the student-selected, student-purchased collection of established artists at The Woodlands High School. The vision for the TWHS Art Trust is to see the art collection grow each year and to have it extend through the hallways of the high school. We also offer FREE tours of our collection to schools and other groups by appointment.

Other than the public sculptures around The Woodlands, this is the ONLY permanent collection of art available to the public. It is seen by THOUSANDS of people every day. Please consider supporting this unique collection that sets us apart from other public high schools and strengthens our goal of being one of the best high schools in the state and country.

For more information on The Woodlands High School Art Trust please visit our website: www.twhsat.org or contact Susan Cosculluela at twhsat@gmail.com.

CLINIC NOTES CLINIC NOTES

🍎 Nutrition Reminders

As we head into the second nine weeks, this time of year can be especially busy (and sometimes stressful!) for our students. We’ve noticed that quite a few are skipping breakfast or forgetting to stay hydrated, which often leads to visits to the clinic with headaches, stomachaches, dizziness, or nausea.

Please remind your student to start the day with a protein-packed breakfast — things like eggs, meat, or peanut butter are great options — and to keep a water bottle handy throughout the day. We have convenient water bottle filling stations around campus.

A quick note about drinks: coffee and energy drinks might seem like a good pick-me-up, but they can actually make kids feel worse once the caffeine wears off. For our athletes, staying hydrated before and after practice is especially important — drinks with electrolytes can be helpful!

💚 Clinic Donations

We’re so grateful for the generous donations we’ve received this year! Our snack supply is running low, though, and we’d really appreciate any of the following items:

  • Small bottles of Gatorade (any flavor) or Body Armor (no strawberry banana, please

  • Peanut butter or cheese crackers

  • Gluten-free snacks
  • Granola bars

Thank you for helping us keep students nourished and feeling their best!

🎓 Attention Parents of Seniors

As graduation approaches, please remember that colleges and universities require a second dose of the MCV4 (meningitis) vaccine — given on or after your child’s 16th birthday. There’s also an optional Meningitis B vaccine available that offers protection against additional strains; talk with your child’s pediatrician for more information.

WELCOME CENTER: We would like to inform you that the Welcome Center, led by Iytzia Cárdenas, has now been relocated to the Jett Center. However, she continues to visit our campus some days a week, mainly when she has scheduled appointments with families.

🧭 Her Mission: Guiding Families Through a New educational System - If you come across a family who may benefit from a one-on-one meeting with Iytzia to better understand and navigate the school system, please don’t hesitate to refer them.

Iytzia is committed to:

  • Providing clear guidance and support

  • Helping families gradually access the information they need

  • Ensuring they do not feel overwhelmed or lost

🌍 More Than Just a Language Barrier - We often assume the challenge is only about learning a new language—but in reality, it’s much deeper. Families arriving from other countries experience:

  • Culture shock

  • Grief and loss from leaving their home country, family , friends , etc.

  • A complete shift in norms and expectations

All of this can create confusion and uncertainty as they try to adjust. That’s where cultural and emotional support becomes essential.

👩‍🏫 Iytzia’s Ongoing Impact - With over 12 years of experience on this campus, Iytzia has played a key role in building strong connections with our families. Due to the growing importance of her work, her role has now been centralized, and she now serves all district schools through the Jett Center. She identifies newly arrived families and reaches out directly—or sometimes is referred by teachers like you.

📌 How You Can Help - If you notice a student or family who seems to be struggling with adjustment, please:

  • Reach out to Iytzia ( 281-220-9527) icardenas@conroeisd.net.

  • Share any relevant information.

  • Encourage families to connect with her.

Even a small gesture can make a huge difference in helping families feel seen, understood, and supported.

Thank you for being a vital part of this support network. Together, we can continue creating a welcoming and inclusive school environment for everyone.
