This initiative trains staff to respond quickly in a cardiac emergency, helping to protect students, staff, and the community. To become a Heart Safe School, there is a checklist that must be completed. Some items on the list include: AED placement, post AED signage, determine clear communication (Code Blue), provide CPR and AED training for team members, conduct cardiac emergency response drills, etc. Mike Downey, Southview Health Assistant, and Caitlin Maranell, School Nurse, are leading this project and Southview is the pilot school.
