A Note from Mrs. Pitts

Dear RES Families,

Based on the small community that we have at RES, sometimes with only two options for class placements, we cannot honor any requests. HOWEVER, if you have an extenuating circumstance that is truly unique and should be considered, please email Michelle Pitts (mpitts@sau50.org). This information will be considered, but due to many factors, may not be possible. After class placement for 2025-2026 is sent to students, we know that we can work through any potential challenges that were not originally anticipated because we value teamwork, especially between home and school.

*ALL EMAILS MUST BE SENT BY APRIL 25. There cannot be any exceptions as we will start the process right after break!

Below are some factors to consider:

-We only consider information from this current year as we may not be privy or have information about particular relationships between students, etc. from previous years.

-Please do not assume that incidents between certain children will be recalled during the placement process as this is a challenge when so many factors are being considered.

-It is important to understand that anything written will be shared with teachers after the Principal has read them.

-Requests for specific teachers cannot be honored. The process of placing students is multifaceted, rendering it impossible to honor these requests.

-Please understand that the Rye Elementary staff cannot take calls or discuss placement regarding specific placement requests. To do so would compromise the hard work of all involved.

THANK YOU for your support,

Warmly,

Michelle Pitts

MP3 Players, IPods, hand-held games, remote control cars, and other

electronic devices may not be brought to school. We cannot assume responsibility for

personal property left in places readily accessible to others. It is also a distraction for

other students. If there is a particular need for a child to have a cell phone please call

the principal to make arrangements. If a child has a cell phone, it must be in a backpack and not seen on the bus or in school.

Note: This includes Smart Watches, these are also an electronic device.

*Sorry about the formatting in this section, an effort was made to change it!

Leadership Survey Leadership Survey

I am getting VERY helpful feedback but I have 20 respondents so far. I am aiming for 30!!! I would really LOVE if you could take some time to fill out this survey, it would help me to reflect on my practice and support our students, families and staff to the best of my ability. I promise to share the results with the community and have already processed a few shifts we can make to support your feedback.

Remote Learning Day? Remote Learning Day?

We are truly hoping for no more weather cancellations BUT we need to be prepared. Although we could still have at least one more weather event and not have to make up that ONE day, we have to acknowledge that weather can be unpredictable and be prepared. We live in New England!

Your child's teacher may have sent home hard copy materials, which we also prepare should there be no power. If not, they will come home shortly. Below are links to the plans for the day with links.

Lunch in Our Caf

We invite one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) but this is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend. This is an occasional event as we do want children to build independence and social skills in the cafeteria, a perfect time for this!

  • Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time. It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
  • Adults must bring their own lunch and can bring lunch for their own child.
  • We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
  • Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria.
  • Days for family visits are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We do not have lunch visitors on Fridays.
  • Lunch times are:
  • Kindergarten-11:45-12:10

    First Grade-12:10-12:35

    Second Grade-12:10-12:35

    Third Grade- 11:15-11:40

    Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40

In first-grade, each student designed a biomimicry project using the Engineering Design Process. The design was based on an animal adaptation for an animal they chose. Biomimicry means copying from life. Humans have created many things that use animal adaptations to solve life problems. This student designed a covering based on a tree's canopy to help them stay dry during a rainstorm.

In second grade, students learned about how natural forces change the Earth. We dove deeper and looked at beach erosion and how to stop it. Each group, using the Engineering Design Process, built something to help prevent a beach they designed from eroding due to the waves created by the ocean.

Fourth graders learned about renewable energy. We focused on solar and wind energy. Their Engineering Design Challenge was to create a house based on a book El Hombre Jengibre, The Gingerbread Man, that Senorita Piper read in World Language. The house was to protect their gingerbread person. Students designed and built a home powered by solar energy to power either two LED lights or a student-built fan.
