Chris's Corner

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It’s your Ereckson Middle School SRO here. I think all staff members would say that the “Honeymoon Period” is officially over! Students have finally settled into their routines, learned their schedules, and even figured out where C Hall is. Believe me, it was touch and go for a while. What started with some confusion (and a few tears) has now turned into confident smiles during passing period.

As all of you know, an SROs top priority is keeping everyone in Ereckson safe. Sometimes this means protecting students not only from outside dangers, but also from the challenges and choices they face themselves. Now that our 7th and 8th graders are becoming more comfortable in their new environment, I’d like to share some important information about behaviors and situations that can impact student safety. My hope is that, by working together, we can prevent these issues before they arise.

Common Concerns We’re Seeing:

· Theft of Personal Property – HB 1481 prohibits the use of personal communication devices during school hours. IPhones and AirPods are common targets for theft. Please encourage your students to keep their devices in a secure backpack pocket or in a locked locker. Unfortunately, stolen or lost items are not always recovered. If something is taken, it’s important they report it right away to a teacher, principal or an SRO. On the other hand, if a student is found in possession of another person’s property, they could be held criminally responsible.

· Bullying and Harassment – Whether in-person or online, bullying can result in both school discipline and serious criminal consequences.

· Fighting and Physical Altercations – Even minor disagreements can escalate quickly. These situations can lead to disciplinary action at school and possible criminal charges.

· Horse-Play - “Pantsing” has become a new trend among students. While some may see it as a joke, it can easily cross the line into sexual harassment if the private areas are exposed. Students may also face criminal consequences.

· Vaping, Alcohol and Drugs – Unfortunately, these substances sometimes appear on school grounds. Possession or use not only puts student health and safety at risk but also results in school and legal consequences.

How Parents Can Help:

· Remind your child to keep personal items secure.

· Talk to your student about making safe, respectful choices.

· Encourage your student to report unsafe or illegal behaviors to a trusted adult or SRO

· Stay involved and aware of any changes in behavior or peer groups.

I want to sincerely thank our Husky parents for partnering with us to keep Ereckson a safe and supportive community. While many see SROs as law enforcers, I see myself as an educator and a resource first. I am always here and encourage you and your child to reach out with any concerns. Together, we can make sure Ereckson remains a safe and positive place to learn and grow.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students.

Warm regards,

Officer Johnson

Husky Huddle

Thank you 8th grade Parents/Guardians for attending our PGP Parent Night Wednesday 9/24! We hope that you walked away with valuable information and answers to your questions. If you weren't able to attend or would like to go back over some of the information that was shared, you can view the presentation in the link here as well as on the Class of 2030 page of the Ereckson Website: PGP Parent Night Presentation

Hello Husky Families! As always, we are here to support you and your student. If you notice that your child is struggling socially, emotionally, or having a hard time adjusting to all things middle school, please reach out to their counselor. Counselor emails are on the front page of the Ereckson website. You can also call the school and ask to be transferred to your student's counselor.

Guidance: Our 7th graders are wrapping up their lessons on Empathy, while our 8th graders continue to plan for their High School graduation by exploring electives and endorsements and completing their PGP templates. Parents, please continue having conversations with your 8th graders about their interests and goals for High School. They have received a lot of information and could use your help navigating all of their options. Please don’t forget about the Parents only PGP Night, Wednesday 9/24 at the Lowery Freshman Center followed by the Expo Night at Allen High School Monday 9/30!

Orchestra and Band News

Big news for Ereckson Orchestra! The Ereckson Chamber and Ereckson Symphony were named winners in the Mark of Excellence competition, and the Ereckson Sinfonia I was named winners in the Citation of Excellence competition! This is a national competition and a HUGE honor that recognizes our students as some of the very best young musicians in the nation. We’re so proud of their hard work and dedication! This was the first time in which all three submissions won in their categories, and this is the second time in program history for both the Chamber and Symphony orchestras to win. A special shoutout to our friends in the Ereckson Band for collaborating with us!

Come watch all five of our amazing orchestras perform at our Fall Concert on Thursday, October 9th at the Allen High School Performing Arts Center! Performance times vary, so please check https://allenorchestra.org/calendar/ for specific details.

Choir News

We’re thrilled to announce that the Ereckson Select Treble Choir has been named a National Winner in the 2025 Mark of Excellence National Choral Competition!

In addition, our Select Tenor-Bass Choir earned the distinction of Commended Winner!

The Mark of Excellence is a prestigious national competition that honors music ensembles demonstrating the highest levels of performance. At the end of last school year, both groups submitted concert recordings, which were evaluated by a panel of nationally recognized adjudicators. The competition received 478 entries from 40 states!

Please join me in celebrating the incredible talent, dedication, and hard work of the 2024–2025 Ereckson MS Choirs.

So proud of our hardworking Husky singers! 💙🐾🤍

Band Performances

Please join us September 30th 6:15-7:45 as the Husky band performs during our football game against Evans Middle School.

We are also playing and competing against Ford and Curtis middle schools for All-City on October 8th.
