2020 Fall Semester

Cover to Cover:The Bradley Library2020 Fall Semester

2020 has been an interesting year. Here's how we've adapted.

We carefully abide by the Covid-19 NEISD Library Services procedures. Sanitizing has become a big part of the day, but we are happy to help keep our students safe. The library started the school year with ebook-checkout-only to now, allowing print book checkout. Our librarian has provided tech support to virtual learners, in-person learners, and school staff. She also worked with NEISD Technology Services to prepare the library for hybrid learning. Class visits and lessons have resumed, and ultimately the library is providing all services.

We are ready for the 2021 Spring semester and can't wait to circulate more books and empower students.

In 2021, we are hoping to host our annual events in-person and on Zoom. A few events to look forward to:

Edible Book Festival

Clash of Titles

Spring Book Fair

Dystopian Genre and Mini-Lesson

7th Graders in Dr. Lindsey's class read dystopian novels! In the library, we reviewed the traits of dystopian books, challenged students to complete an interactive activity ”Dystopian or Not" & provided easy access to Dystopian ebooks in Sora!

Socially Distant Conferences

Students and staff have utilized the library as a place to collaborate in person and also attend their virtual conferences. Some examples include the Unity Club conference and the NEISD PLC conference.

6th-8th Grade Students attend First Chapter Friday 6th-8th Grade Students attend First Chapter Friday

On Fridays, all ELAR classes offer "Flashback Friday" where students review concepts, complete assignments, or extend their learning. The library offered "First Chapter Friday" where students learned about a new book, built their background knowledge, and read the first 2-3 chapters of a book. In December, the highlighted book was Peak by Roland Smith. Students were captivated by the interesting topic of climbing Mount Everest.

Something to note, the author of the book replied to our library Twitter post. He said hello to our students!

Green Screen Magic!

Our librarian put on her video producer hat and our coaches tried something new! They used the green screen to produce "12 Days of Fitmas" for our girls in PE and athletics! Repeating 12 workouts to a remix version of a classic song is sure to keep us in shape this holiday season!

Non-Fiction Books

Books on display invite students to read books they wouldn't normally look for. To support ELAR informational units, there were books on interesting informational topics readily available for students to borrow.

Supporting Teachers and Students

NEISD Library Services strives to support teachers across all content areas. The department has compiled resources for 6th grade Science and 7th grade Science units.

Ms. Sanchez compiled resources for 8th grade Science unit: Global Weather Patterns. She has also helped teachers digitize assignments such as: Genre Scavenger Hunt, Declaration of Independence: Break-Up Letter, and Book Snaps (fun way to annotate as you read).
