Hello FamiLEE,

Lee High School is excited to announce that we have grown 6 points on our State Report Card score for the last school year! Our students, faculty, and staff worked very hard to make these gains. We are proud of the progress we have made, especially the increase in academic growth from the previous school year. This year, we are diligently working to improve and will continue to be relentless in our pursuit of achieving a B letter grade on this year's report card.

We only have 11 days of school left before exams once we return from Thanksgiving Break so it is very important that students return focused and ready to finish strong.

Our Media Arts Magnet has produced their Welcome to the Leegion Podcast Episode for November 2024. This episode includes a guide to Trumbauer Theatre Competition, a Hallmark movie review, and a segment about the Just Keep Living and Black Student Union Clubs. Click here to give it a listen and hear about the amazing things our students are doing.

Please send excuse notes to LHS.Attendance@hsv-k12.org. We are working hard to meet our goal of a 95% attendance rate. Please help us with this effort. We need to get back up to 95%.

Our magnet window is open. If you know someone interested in applying, please send them the information in this newsletter. We want to grow our FamiLEE!!!

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Kitrise Torain

LHS Principal

  • Attention FamiLEE! The boys and girls soccer teams are selling bedsheets for a fundraiser this year. If you are in need of some fresh linens, think about going to this website and supporting a player. A portion of all sales goes directly to the team to help pay for equipment, buses and refs. Click here for more information!
  • Attention Parents & Guardians! Every Tuesday through Friday, we have FamiLEE time between 11:30am-12:15pm. This is a time when students can get help from their teachers or attend clubs. If your student is struggling or needs to get help from their teacher, please see the schedule of teacher office hours below and encourage your child to attend!
  • The HCS Career and Technical Education (CTE) application is open November 15, 2024 through January 17, 2025. The application is for current 9th-11th grade HCS students who wish to attend a CTE travel program during the 2025-2026 school year. Students and families will need to log in with the student's HCS/Clever email accounts to be able to access the CTE Application. For any application-related questions, please reach out to the CTE Counselor for help.

Shout-Outs Shout-Outs

  • Shout-out to our Freshmen of the Week from this week! Jamey Turner comes to us from Huntsville Junior High School. Here at Lee she is in the visual arts magnet and is involved in Leading Ladies. In her spare time she likes to draw and play video games. When she graduates from high school she would like to create a comic book and maybe even become a veterinarian. Her favorite teacher at Lee is Ms. Radowski because she is nice and you can go to her for almost anything. She is a fun teacher! Jeremiah Sohn comes to us from Chapman Middle. Here at Lee he is on the soccer team. In his spare time he likes to play basketball. When he graduates from high school he wants to go to college but is unsure what he wants to major in and focus on while he is there. His favorite teacher at Lee is Ms. Jiang because she makes math easy to understand and she is a great person! Congratulations to both of them for representing our FamiLEE values so well!
  • Congratulations to our FamiLEE spotlight of the week: Mr. McDonald and Mr. Shields.

Mr. McDonald is our Teacher of the Year and Mr. Shields is our Support Staff of the Year. We are excited and blessed to recognize them for all their hard work. Mr. McDonald is a science teacher and all around leader in our school. He continuously works to ensure our school is growing and achieving. Mr. McDonald loves to learn and it shows in nearly everything he does. Mr. McDonald's footprint can be seen in every corner of the building. Mr. Shields is our Behavior Support Specialist and helps to maintain our calm environment. Mr. Shields works with all students and strives to build relationships with students and adults alike. He is quick to respond to both times of celebration and times of crisis. Mr. Shields mentors those who excel and those who struggle which is one of the reasons he is so successful. Please take the time to congratulate both Mr. Shields and Mr. McDonald when you see them.
