CougarChronicleSeptember Weekly Update ~ September 11, 2026

A note from Mr. Lee A note from Mr. Lee

Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Like many of you, I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I first heard that our country had been attacked. It is one of those moments in time that stays with you forever.

So much changed after that day. Some changes were significant, while others became part of our everyday lives. Think about something as simple as going to a sporting event, concert, or airport today and the security procedures we now expect.

Twenty-five years later, our students are growing up in a very different world. But one thing has not changed: students are most successful when families and schools work together.

That partnership is incredibly important to us at Carter, and next week we have a great opportunity to strengthen it.

Carter Open House

Tuesday, September 15, 6:00โ€“8:00 PM

During the evening, you will hear briefly from Mr. Lee, Mr. Syswerda, and Dr. Bernia, our Superintendent. We will also have several stations available to help families navigate the school year and learn more about the resources available at Carter.

Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to walk your child's schedule, visit their classrooms, and meet the teachers who will be working with them every day.

We have had a great start to the school year, but we know that what happens next depends on all of us. Teachers, students, families, and staff working together.

We hope to see you on Tuesday night. Thank you for being part of the Carter community.

Every Day Counts. Carter Pride!

Special Remarks from Mr. Syswerda Special Remarks from Mr. Syswerda

Our volleyball and football teams got off to a great start this week. We have one more full week of practice for both teams and our first games will occur the following week.

When the excitement of the beginning of school dies down, be sure to ask your child about their teachers' names. Even if you don't remember them all, asking will communicate to your child that their performance in school matters.

I look forward to meeting you all next week at our Carter Open House on Tuesday, September 15th.

6th Grade Assembly 6th Grade Assembly

Welcome to our newest class of Carter Cougars! We started the year with a Carter 6th Grade Boot Camp assembly. We opened with games and activities focusing on our RISE expectations and finished with a 6th grade time capsule activity. The 6th grade students will continue to meet once a month with the Carter student leadership team and teachers to focus on different topics to help them be successful at Carter Middle School. These assemblies will include games and activities to help students learn about topics such as empathy, time management, and responsible decision making. We are looking forward to working with this amazing group of students throughout the year!
