Superintendent Snapshot

October 16, 2026
Dear Colton-Pierrepont Families and Staff,
Like many of you, I was sad to learn about the tragic school shooting in Bend, Oregon. My thoughts are with the students, families, educators, first responders, and the entire community as they navigate this senseless act.
As a superintendent—and a mom —news like this is difficult to process. It also serves as a reminder of how important it is that we remain committed to keeping our schools safe.
At CPCS, school safety is something we work on every day. We have a District Threat Assessment Team that meets regularly to review concerns, assess potential risks, and ensure we are taking proactive steps to support the safety and well-being of our students and staff. This work is not a reaction to tragedies elsewhere—it is an ongoing and an important part of how we support a safe learning environment throughout the year. I am grateful to our staff, community partners, and law enforcement members who serve on our Threat Assessment Team.
School safety is a shared responsibility and no concern is too small to share. I want to remind everyone about our See Something, Say Something reporting button on our district website. If you see or hear something that concerns you—whether it's a troubling comment, concerning behavior, or something that simply doesn't feel right—please let us know. You can always reach out to a trusted staff member or administrator, or submit a report through the reporting tool.
One of the things I appreciate most about our Colton-Pierrepont community is that we look out for one another. Thank you for partnering with us to create a school environment where every student feels safe, supported, and cared for.
Best,
Jennifer McKinley
