Message from the Principal Message from the Principal

Dear AE Families,

I know that I've said it often, but want to reiterate my strong belief that what we do as educators takes a village. Thank you for being a part of that village and working with our school team to help us continually improve the school experience for our students. In the next several weeks, you will see additional opportunities for us to come together as a team to support AE's students and our school. This includes the supporting the current PTO fundraiser, volunteering at Dutchmen Day, participating in the PTO, and attending STEM in the Community Night. We hope to see you at these events! Thank you for your continued partnership!

Kind regards,

Becky Hoover

Specials Grading Update Specials Grading Update

Along with updates to our content area grading, we have also made updates to provide consistency in our specials grading from kindergarten through sixth grade. Graded specials classes include physical education, music, art, library, STEAM, as well as Band in fifth and 6th grade. Grades will be provided each semester (marking periods two and four) and will be available at any time for review through PowerSchool's Parent Portal. The following scale will be used in each of our specials class to provide feedback on a student's performance:

  • 4 - EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS: Student consistently and independently exceeds grade-level standards.

  • 3 - PROFICIENT: Student is consistently and independently meeting grade-level standards.

  • 2 - DEVELOPING: Student is inconsistent in meeting grade-level expectations independently. Support is necessary for success.

  • 1 - EMERGING: Student is not yet able to meet grade-level expectations independently. High levels of support are needed for success.

This scale will correlate to the grade book in the following (traditional) way:

  • 4 = 90-100%
  • 3 = 70-89%
  • 2 = 50-69%
  • 1 = 49% or below

As a part of the District's rebranding, our school has partnered the with Elementary PTO to provide a shirt with the District's updated logo for each of our students. This will ensure that all of our students are able to participate in school and district spirit days! These shirts will be made available to our students in the coming days. Huge thanks to our PTO for their continued support of our students!
