Almond Community News: PeachJar

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Almond families,

Thank you so much for joining us last Thursday at Back to School Night! We hope you walked away with a clearer picture of the exciting learning journey your child(ren) will take this year and maybe even got to know your child’s teacher a little better. We can’t wait to team up with you this year to keep our Almond Eagles soaring high, engaged, and thriving every single day! 🦅

New Family Coffee with the Principal and PTA ☕

Welcome to the Almond family, new Eagles! Please join me and our amazing PTA for coffee, school spirit, and a short presentation in the Almond Library on Friday, September 5 at 8:45am. It’s the perfect way to connect, learn more about our wonderful community, and start soaring into the year together. Let’s show that Eagle pride—see you there!

Cell Phone/Smart Watch Policy 📱

As personal technology devices have become more ubiquitous, we hope the following information about our phone/smart watch/headphone policy will help us to partner together to ensure that all students stay safe on campus. Our policy states that personal technology devices (phones/smart watches/headphones) must be turned off and placed in backpacks as soon as students arrive on campus in the morning. Students should not be using those devices at any time before the end of the day, except with permission from staff. Parents who wish to communicate with their students should do so through the front office. Our office staff can get messages to individual students. Students who have their cell phones/smart watches out, without permission, during the school day will have their phone confiscated and a parent will need to pick it up at the office at the end of the day. The school is not responsible for any lost or stolen devices brought to school.

Opt in for Text Messages in Case of an Emergency

You can participate in this free service (standard message and data rates may apply) just by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587. You can also opt out of these messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with “Stop”.

Music is here at Almond! 🎵

Our amazing 4th-6th grade teachers have begun music instruction across all 7 elementary schools, including Almond, this week! From rhythm to melody, these dedicated educators can’t wait to unlock the creative potential in every student.

Let’s come together and support a high-quality, well-rounded education at Almond this school year. With strong support from parents like you, our students can receive an excellent education that goes beyond what public funding provides.

Donate to both LAEF and the PTA to fund the resources and opportunities that turn an ordinary education into an LASD Education! Learn more and donate at LAEFEducationPartners.org.

Donations to LAEF help fund physical education (PE) teachers, librarians, music teachers (4th-6th), the Art Docents program, the Living Classroom program, computer science support, junior high electives, and mental health counseling this year.

LAEF is the only way for parents to help fund LASD teaching staff in our district and fill the gap in school funding from federal, state, and local sources. Gifts of any amount are appreciated.

Jeff Zeisler:

Hello Almond community, and welcome back! My twins are in 6th grade this year. It feels like just yesterday they were in third, and now they're already plotting their takeover of the sixth-grade lunch area! I also have an older son at Egan. My family and I love our Almond community. If you have any questions about how LAEF helps make our school so great, please feel free to reach out. I'd love to chat.

Melinda Kersey:

Hi Almond Ohana! My name is Melinda Kersey, and my husband, Jason, and I have two kids at Almond: Jack in 6th grade and Jeremy in 4th. I joined the Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF) Board last year to give back to a community and an organization that provides strong support for key programs across LASD; programs like mental health counseling, music, and computer science support. Please reach out if you have any questions, and I look forward to seeing you around campus!

Dharini Shukla:

Hi Almond families! I’m brand new to both the LAEF Board and Almond, and super excited to get to know everyone in the community! My husband (Prashant) and I have two children: Avyaan (Kinder) and Naavya (preschool). I began my work with LAEF last year as a community member and joined the Board this year because I’m deeply passionate about public education and want to get involved as soon as possible. I’m incredibly excited to partner with LASD families to support important initiatives for our children, such as music, art, computer science, and mental health counseling.

  • Families who qualify for free or reduced-cost may also be eligible for free or reduced-cost internet, free or reduced-cost summer camps, after-school child care, summer discount cards, and more! Your application helps your child and many others. Please use this website to access the application. (https://linqconnect.com/public/meal-application/new)
