Principal Update 1/6/25
Good Morning Memorial Families,
Happy New Year! Welcome to 2025! 2025 is a big year in the Bell household as my babies will be graduating high school. I remember when they were graduating elementary school and got their class t-shirts. The big class of 2025 on the back seemed SO far away. But I am telling you, those years have zipped on by in the blink of an eye. Enjoy the time that your children are in. Elementary school years really are the best. Of course, as an elementary educator, I am a bit biased, but truly, high school graduation comes quickly. Enjoy the moments with your children.
January is always an interesting month. We can either trend warm and get very little snow and have more consistency with instruction, or we can get pummeled with snowstorms causing a lot of disruption in learning. My hope is that this year is light on the snow so that we can gain momentum heading into the spring. I always say that January is the sweet spot for students. Our younger students are really taking off with their reading skills, and our older students are beginning to tackle much more complex tasks. It is my favorite time to be in classrooms, as there is an energetic buzz throughout the school and student focus and enthusiasm for school is high.
Please save the date of January 29th from 5:30-7pm. We will hold our second family night of the year, and this time it is a Literacy Night. We have some really fun and innovative family-friendly activities planned. We hope that you will be able to come for all or even just some of the time. It is being structured similar to math night, allowing families to "choose your own adventure" and participate in as much or as little of the fun as you would like. Please save the date and plan to join us. If we have snow, we will reschedule for February 6th.
As a reminder, we do send the kids outside so long as the "feels like" temperature is at least 20 degrees. Please be sure that your child is dressed to be able to play comfortably outside in the winter months.
Have a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Wendy
