Dear Delco Families,
Character Trait for October is Kindness
As we continue our journey through the school year, we want to take a moment to talk about a subject that is just as important as reading, writing, and math: kindness.
At school, we are dedicated to creating a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment for every student. A cornerstone of this effort is teaching and modeling kindness. When children learn to be kind, they develop essential life skills like empathy, compassion, and respect for others. This isn't just about being "nice"; it has a profound impact on their academic and social-emotional growth.
Why is Kindness So Important?
Positive School Climate: Acts of kindness, big and small, build a school community where students feel safe, valued, and ready to learn. A kind classroom is one with less bullying, less anxiety, and more focus on learning.
Stronger Friendships: Children who practice kindness are better able to build and maintain healthy friendships. They learn to listen, share, and support their peers.
Improved Well-being: Studies show that being kind to others can boost a child's own happiness, self-esteem, and resilience.
Academic Success: When students feel secure and connected in their environment, they are more confident, engaged, and willing to participate in class.
Partnering with You: Kindness at Home
The lessons we teach at school are most powerful when they are reinforced at home. You are your child's first and most influential teacher, and your example is incredibly powerful. Here are a few simple ways you can help nurture kindness in your child:
Model Kindness: Let your children see you being kind to others—to family members, neighbors, and people in the community. Use polite words like "please" and "thank you" and handle disagreements with respect.
Talk About It: Ask your child about their day, specifically focusing on kindness. Ask questions like, "Did you see anyone do something kind today?" or "Did you have a chance to help someone today?"
Read Stories About Kindness: Share books that have themes of empathy, friendship, and helping others. Discuss the characters' feelings and choices.
Acknowledge Kind Behavior: When you see your child being kind—whether it's sharing a toy with a sibling or offering to help you with a chore—praise them for it. Be specific: "It was so kind of you to help your brother when he fell down."
Practice Empathy: Encourage your child to think about how others might be feeling. You can say things like, "How do you think that would make your friend feel?" This helps them see things from another person's perspective.
Thank you for being our partners in your child's education. By working together, at school and at home, we can teach our children that kindness is a strength. We can raise a generation of compassionate, caring, and respectful individuals who will make our school, our community, and our world a better place.
School Report Card 2022-2023
Thank you for arriving to school on time!
We are writing to extend a heartfelt thank you for your incredible effort in getting your children to school on time each morning. Seeing our students arrive by 7:30 AM, settled and ready to learn, makes a tremendous difference in their day and in our entire school community.
When students are here on time, they have the chance to ease into the school day, greet their teachers and friends, and prepare their minds for learning. This smooth start prevents them from missing crucial opening instructions and the first few minutes of a lesson, which often set the stage for the day's activities.
Your partnership in prioritizing punctuality ensures that every child benefits from every possible minute of instructional time. It also helps instill a valuable life skill of responsibility and respect for schedules.
We know that mornings can be hectic, and we sincerely appreciate the commitment you make to start your child's day off right. Your dedication does not go unnoticed, and it is a vital part of your child's success.
Thank you for helping us make every moment count.
