Principal's Message

Dear St. Dominic School Families,

As the calendar turns to April, we have just passed the mid-point of Lent. During the retreat day that the 7th and 8th grade students had with the students from St. Aloysius, Meredith Manning and Liz Woconish reminded the students that it's never too late to make promises to yourself that will bring you closer to being the person God wants you to be. Now is a good time to think about where we are on the Lenten journey and commit ourselves to growing in faith as we get closer to the Easter season.

All St. Dominic families are encouraged to attend the beautiful Holy Week and Easter Triduum Masses and prayer services at St. Dominic Church. I'll share details of all of them with you in the Week Ahead.

In the second week of April, Great Lakes Theater Festival will spend a week in residency at our school, working with our younger students. Professional actors from Great Lakes will lead students through lessons that include acting, discussion, and theater exercises. All students will have an opportunity to act. The lessons also meet required ELA standards.

On Thursday, April 17, Holy Thursday, the entire school will spend the day on retreat, continuing our focus on Love Your Neighbor. Our students get so much from this day which begins with the Last Supper reenactment by our 7th grade and is followed by learning and faith activities. Later in the day, the 8th graders perform a powerful shadow Stations of the Cross on the stage. As the day ends, and our journey brings us closer to Easter, there is a special visit from the Easter Bunny who will bring gifts for the students. Spring break begins on Good Friday, and we return to school on April 28.

Please keep an eye on the Week Ahead for more timely information.

God bless you,

Mrs. Maureen Covington

Tomorrow's Leaders Start Here Tomorrow's Leaders Start Here

Each month, this space will include the students who are recognized for being leaders at St. Dominic School. After our Friday masses, Mrs. Covington announces the names of all the student leaders who have been recognized. She will then bring them a bracelet that says "I am a leader at St. Dominic School" and take their picture. Pictures are displayed on the bulletin board off the main entrance area.

Teachers, parents, and fellow students are encouraged to identify students who lead in worshipping, learning, serving, and connecting. These are students who go above and beyond by giving of their time, recognizing a need, and putting others ahead of themselves.

Connecting Leader

School parent, Mrs. Manzanares, recognized 2nd grader Lars Hulme as a connecting leader. Lars missed out on his own outdoor recess during the beautiful, spring-like weather to keep her son Gabi company as he recovered from his surgery, and couldn't participate in outdoor recess. It was a very selfless thing for him to do, and his friendship this week meant a lot to Gabi!

Serving Leaders

One of the Fish Fry volunteers wrote to recognize 7th grader Zeno Zumpano and 5th grader Sam Manning. She said, “It was extremely busy during the Fish Fry, and Zeno took the lead on assisting with packaging, repeating orders, making bags and providing direction to the other students. He was managing the line like a true leader while maintaining his calmness during a hectic time. Zeno did an outstanding job. Sam was also so efficient with the orders and running orders upstair in a timely manner. He always had a smile on his face and was a joy to work with.” They are both serving leaders.

A Message from President Lindsay Evans:

Welcome to 4th Quarter and the home stretch of the 2024-2025 school year. While there isn’t too much on the school calendar as far as big FEA fundraisers, I would like to encourage all of our families to enjoy a meal out when we host restaurant nights. It’s a passive way for us to raise money so that we can continue to provide all that we do for our staff and students with low or no cost to them.

Now time to shout out my “rock stars” of the St. Dominic Show-the students, staff and volunteers!!!!! I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the hard work and dedication everyone put into this show-without your help, a production of this magnitude would not be possible. I feel so grateful to have so much talent and commitment on board so that we can continue the tradition of such a wonderful show that allows our students to shine on stage. As we work to finalize numbers I am excited to see how successful of a fundraiser we accomplished!

At this month’s FEA meeting, Monday April 14th @6:30 pm in the library, we will welcome all post show feedback and suggestions. We hope you will join us in the conversation and remember your child(ren) will get a dress down pass for every meeting you attend!

A Message from Athletic Director Treye Johnson:

Happy Spring, everyone! Our spring sports season is underway, and St. Dominic teams will be participating in track & field (Puppies for grades K-2; CYO for grades 3-8), and boys volleyball (grades 7-8). Competitions began last weekend, and we wish all our student-athletes a successful season!

NOTE: for track and field, we will be partnering with Communion of Saints; our 3rd & 4th grade runners will compete with COS, and St. Dominic's 5th-8th grade team will include runners from COS. This is most important from a scheduling perspective, as our 3rd/4th grade runners will use the schedule for the 'COS - Grdina' team. For the latest information about schedules, please check the St. Dominic Bulldog Club website.

Lastly, we are asking that you return any outstanding jerseys from the Fall and Winter seasons by Friday, April 11. We will be billing families for unreturned uniforms over Spring Break, so please take a moment to check and be sure all uniforms have been returned to school. As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns: st.dominic.bulldogs@gmail.com.

A Message from After Care Director Giovana Evangelista:

It's hard to believe that we are beginning April and only have two full months of school left. With students wearing summer uniforms, please remember to send appropriate outer wear and watch the weather reports. We will be outside as much as possible.

Thank you for your patience during the Fish Fry. I appreciate your willingness to pick students up from the large meeting room. As a reminder, students who are volunteering for the Fish Fry must have a parent email me at gevangelista@stdominicschool.net to let me know so that I can release them.

Finally, we are working on the schedule for our end-of-year party, which will include a game truck, some inflatables, and other fun activities. The date will likely be Thursday, May 22. This event will require RSVPs. The April birthday party will be on Wednesday, April 30. We will celebrate our April birthdays with ice cream and small gifts.
