Mentor Program - As we discussed in the fall, we are excited to begin our WKE mentor program here this spring. We appreciate you informing us of students you feel may need an extra support system here at school, who otherwise do not have an advocate. We have put together a list of mentor teams to work together to support student success and seeking the best interest of the student at all times. We will roll this out at a collaborative conversation in January and move forward from there!
"Every child deserves a champion- an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be."
Access Testing - Our ELL students are involved in Access testing. This testing is done in small group and individual settings. Each student has a session of listening, reading, writing and speaking. The testing schedule will begin February 10th. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we assess our students. Schedule
New After School Program - Our district social worker, Alma Puente Ruiz, recently was awarded a grant for an after school tutoring program. We are fortunate to be the site she selected to host this program. We will be asking to use classrooms for tutoring, more to come on the logistics of this. We have secured the four teachers for the program as well as the Instructional Assistant. Students were placed with the following criteria: Academically At-Risk; 25% or below on Benchmark; Homeless and/or living with. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Counselors' Corner
Dear Teachers,
WELCOME BACK!!! As we begin a new year the counseling department would like to remind you that we are here for your needs and concerns. Small groups are starting up again. If you have new students or students that would benefit from a small group, please let us know! Attached is an article about how to deal with bad days (we all have them)! Also, there is a behavior intervention cheat sheet that offers some great ideas to use in the classroom.
With much love, Angela, Ruth, and Elizabeth

Math
As a reminder, all textbook initial evaluation rubrics must be turned in no later than Monday. The deadline will not be extended.
In preparation for our upcoming labsite visits on February 6 (K-2) and 7 (3-5), we are asking you to complete a task with your students to gather data for us to talk around. The tasks will be in your boxes Monday. Please have your students complete the task independently at some point next week. You may help them with words or read it aloud if needed. They may use manipulatives if they want. However, please do not teach into the task. So students may not know how to complete the task, but that provides us with useful data. You will hold on to this data to bring with you the day of your labsite visit. Please let me know if you have any questions.
