BRASWELL NEWS
Live an identity of excellence.
Dear Braswell High School Families,
It’s a great day to be alive…. It’s a great day to be a BENGAL!
I hope you all are enjoying your summer with your families. I wanted to take the time to formally reach out to you and let you know how excited I am to work with your students and our community this school year. I am energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our children and community. We will accomplish this by setting high academic and operational expectations for all students and providing supportive systems to ensure that expectations are met. By addressing school culture, increasing academic expectations for all students, setting high standards for teacher performance, and engaging parents and community, it is our goal that all Braswell High School graduates are college, career, and/or work-force ready. I believe teamwork and open communication are very important, and I know that together we will continue to ensure a positive and productive learning environment for our students.
While we will embrace the challenges of the future, we will continue to cherish and celebrate Bengal Excellence.
Here are some of the elite expectations your students need to know: Our goal is to maximize students time in class and allow them to maximize their potential academically.
1. Content Reading and Writing - Students will read and write about content specific ideas each day for 10-15 minutes in class each and every block.
2. ID IS LIFE - Nearly every aspect of the school life will be centered around the use of ID's. Students must have ID's on and around their neck at all times.
3. Engagement in the Classroom - NO CELL DURING INSTRUCTIONAL TIME (only during passing periods).
4. Hallway Culture - Get to your class on time, conduct and citizenship in the hall, 10/10 Rule
WE WILL ACCOMMODATE THOSE WHO DO NOT COMPLY WITH OUR ACADEMIC AND OPERATIONAL EXPECTATIONS.
We hope you are enjoying the last few weeks of a well-deserved summer. We are excitedly preparing for the 2022-23 school year at Braswell High School. As the anticipation of a new school year continues to build, I want to ensure that you have as much vital information as possible. I hope this information is helpful as you plan for a successful year for your child. Drop Off & Pick up Procedures
Drive safe! Slow down! Be courteous!
Please follow the new traffic flow map for AM and PM drop off and pick up each day. There are only two lanes, one for drop off/pick up and one for exiting.
Early Dismissal: We stop early dismissing students from the front office at 3:45pm each afternoon in order for staff members to prepare for and assist with dismissal. If you are only picking up a freshman, you will pick them up in the new freshmen wing. If you are picking up students from multiple grade levels, you may pick them up in either the main office or freshmen wing.
Drop Off Procedures
- Bus riders will be seated in the Commons while they wait for their bus numbers to be displayed and called.
- All walkers and car riders must leave the main entrance of the building at dismissal. Walkers and car riders should not be in the Commons or bus pick up area after school.
- Students attending after school tutorials should report directly to tutorials.
BHS is growing and we have exciting changes!
School Supplies
Chromebooks
If your student has outstanding Chromebook or charger fees for lost, stolen, or broken devices, they will not receive a new Chromebook or charger until fees have been paid. All students who attended BHS last school year have received email and paper notices for overdue fees.
Failure to take care of overdue fees may also impact your student’s ability to purchase tickets for events such as homecoming, prom, and parking permits until balances have been paid. Incoming Seniors who have outstanding balances at the end of the school year will not receive their official diploma until balances have been paid.
How can I pay?
- To pay online, click HERE.
- Cash or check will be accepted in the front office.
Student Schedules
First Day of School: Students will report to 1st period to receive their official paper schedule. This schedule may be different than what your student sees in HAC on August 4th. If your student does not have a 1st period class, they will report to the Commons to pick up their schedule before 2nd period begins.
Schedule Change Requests: Schedule changes are not guaranteed, we will do our best to accommodate your requests based on class sizing and availability with your schedule. Students should follow the paper schedule they receive in their 1st period class until they receive a new schedule.
Beginning August 4th, your student will be able to submit a schedule change request by completing the Schedule Change Request form. Click HERE to complete and submit your request. This is the only way to request a schedule change. This form closes at 11:55 PM on August 8th. No schedule change requests will be taken after August 8th. Processing time for change requests will depend on the volume of requests received. As changes are made, they will be visible in HAC. If a change is unable to be made, you will receive an email from your counselor.
Food Deliveries
Except in emergencies, delivery of messages or packages to students will not be allowed during instructional time. A parent may leave a message or a package, such as a forgotten lunch, for the student to pick up from the front office during a passing period or lunch. Delivery of foods for students from third party vendors will not be permitted.
Welcome to a new school year from the Attendance Office!
