Psychological First Aid

June 29, 2022 (8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.): Psychological First Aid (PFA) is an evidence-informed intervention model to assist students, staff, and families in the immediate aftermath of a disaster or emergency event, and can be used by any trained staff member or school administrator. PFA is designed to reduce the initial distress and trauma caused by emergencies, and to help students return to their usual school-based activities after such an event. By using these brief and effective interventions in the form of the five steps of PFA (Listen, Protect, Connect, Model, and Teach), schools can provide a long-lasting, positive influence on trauma-related stress.

40 Development Assets

July 14, 2022 (8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.): The 40 Developmental Assets® framework was created by Search Institute® consisting of preventative measures, positive experiences, and qualities that young people need to grow up healthy, caring and responsible. These assets are protective factors that have been consistently shown, by research, to buffer youth from risk. The more assets a child has the higher probability that the child will not be involved in behaviors such as teen pregnancy, school dropout, substance abuse, delinquency, or violence.

Special Education Self-Assessment

The special education self-assessment assists Local Education Agency (LEA) leadership teams in evaluating and improving their special education program. The special education self-assessment is completed annually by all LEAs and is intended to engage leadership teams in proactively addressing special education compliance and student performance.

The window for completion of the special education self-assessment will be May 2, 2022 to September 30, 2022. For the 2021-2022 School year, LEAs will be required to complete the 7 prioritized compliance/strategy areas (Child Find, IEP Implementation, IEP Development and Content, Instructional Strategies, Properly Constituted ARD, Secondary Transition, Family Engagement) with the option to complete any other compliance/strategy areas.

Region 10 has developed materials to support LEAs with engaging effectively in the self-assessment process. Check out the Region 10 Self-Assessment recorded webinar and hyperdoc, and reach out to the Liaisons if you have any questions.
