What a gorgeous weekend after such bitter cold! I was SO IMPRESSED to see all the jackets and pants worn by 99% of the students! 😜
As we enter a warmer week, please encourage your children to spend time outside each day! While I hated that the kids had to be outside last week in the bitter cold, this week I'm thankful they all experience the sunlight. Studies claim that children need at least 1 hour of sunlight daily to receive optimal levels of Vitamin D. If it's above 40 degrees, we usually go outside for recess and then they walk between classes...but that's still not enough! If you've noticed that your kiddo seems almost depressed since November ish...it could be related to the weather and shorter days. Here is an article about Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD. With the sun out this week and warmer days, it just makes things seem "brighter"!
Quick Reminders:
- Dress Code: Holes must not be above fingertips. Students who are out of dress code do get a detention, so please be aware!
- Spring and warmer weather does bring changing attitudes.
- Please speak with (and even script conversations) your children about the following:
- How to talk to kids they don't agree with
- What if they break up with their boyfriend/girlfriend
- What to do if their friend tells them something that's not right (abuse, dangerous activity, etc)
- Remind them to tell you if they see things inappropriate on Social Media
- How do deal with disappointment (sports, grades, friendships)
- What do to if they're feeling lonely
- If you're not sure how to help and have noticed changing behaviors - please reach out to us!
