Important Reminder About Afternoon Student Pickup & Standards-Based Grading

Dear Chloe Clark Families,

Wow, last weekend was amazing - cold, crisp, and some sunny afternoons! Keep your kiddos bundled up in warm jackets this week.

I'd like to share a few important reminders regarding afternoon student pickup, as well as provide information about the Standards-Based Grading Guidelines for the first semester.

Afternoon Student Pickup - We Need your Help!

  1. Parent Pickup Process:
Many students, particularly in 1st and 3rd grades, are picked up in cars or meet their parents near the North Parking Lot to walk home. Please wait for our staff to dismiss your child directly to you. This helps us ensure every student is accounted for and safely released to their guardian.

  2. No Playing in Grassy Areas:
Please remind your children that the grassy areas near the sidewalks are not play zones during dismissal. We’ve had incidents where balls and other objects have hit cars in the parking lot and on Palisade Avenue. Additionally, many families are walking, and we want to maintain a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

  3. No Personal Toys from Home:
Students will be asked to leave their toys/balls at home or in backpacks to avoid any necessary confusion.

We appreciate your cooperation in following these guidelines to keep all of our students, families, and vehicles safe during dismissal.

Standards-Based Grading Guidelines for the First Semester

We also want to clarify the Standards-Based Grading Guidelines for this semester:

  • All scores (1-3) are assessed against END-OF-YEAR grade-level standards.
  • It is very appropriate for the majority of students to receive scores of 1 or 2 at this time of year
as the standards being assessed are based on end-of-year expectations
    .

These scores reflect student progress toward meeting grade-level goals by the end of the academic year. Thank you for your understanding and continued partnership in supporting our students' growth and success! Report cards will be available on Skyward on February 3rd.

Warmly,

Loretta Duncan

Principal, Chloe Clark Elementary
