M.A.D.D. Assembly at Our Middle School: A Powerful Message About Making Safe Choices
On a bright and impactful morning, our middle school had the honor of hosting a M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) assembly, aimed at educating students on the dangers of impaired driving and encouraging safe, responsible choices. The assembly brought a powerful message to all students, helping us understand the serious consequences of driving under the influence and the impact it can have on individuals, families, and communities.
The event was organized by the school's guidance department, with the support of M.A.D.D. volunteers, who came in to share their experiences and the real-life stories behind their mission. The assembly featured a series of emotional testimonies, educational videos, and interactive discussions designed to highlight the importance of making smart decisions—both as passengers and drivers.
Key Takeaways
By the end of the assembly, students left with a greater understanding of the dangers of impaired driving and a strong message of responsibility. We were encouraged to be safe, look out for our friends, and never hesitate to intervene if we think someone might be making a dangerous decision.
The M.A.D.D. assembly was a powerful reminder that while it’s easy to think these issues don’t apply to us, making responsible choices behind the wheel is something we all need to consider—whether we’re drivers or passengers, now or in the future. As young people, we may not be thinking about driving just yet, but it’s important to start developing a mindset focused on safety, responsibility, and caring for one another.

Love was in the air, and so was the excitement! This year’s Valentine's Day Dance was an unforgettable night filled with music, laughter, and plenty of fun on the dance floor. Whether students arrived with friends or danced the night away with a special someone, everyone had a fantastic time.
The Dance Floor Came Alive! From the moment the music started, the gym was transformed into a vibrant celebration. The DJ played an amazing mix of top hits and classic dance anthems, keeping the crowd moving all night long. Whether it was a fast-paced jam or a slow, romantic song, students enjoyed every moment.
Dressed to Impress The outfits were dazzling! Students arrived in a variety of styles in festive attire in shades of red and pink.
Sweet Treats and Refreshments Dancing can work up an appetite, and the refreshment table was a hit. Delicious snacks and drinks kept the energy levels high, allowing everyone to take a break and enjoy some sweet treats before heading back to the dance floor.
A Night of Fun and Friendship Beyond the music and dancing, the Valentine's Day Dance was a chance to celebrate friendship and school spirit. Laughter echoed through the gym as students enjoyed the festive decorations and took part in group dances, making the night even more special.

Holly Jackson’s A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is a gripping and cleverly crafted young adult mystery that keeps readers hooked from start to finish. This debut novel blends suspense, intrigue, and a compelling protagonist to deliver a fresh take on the classic murder mystery.
Plot Overview
The story follows Pippa Fitz-Amobi, a bright and determined high school student who chooses to investigate a five-year-old murder case for her senior project. In her small town of Fairview, everyone believes that Sal Singh murdered Andie Bell before taking his own life. But Pip isn't convinced. As she digs deeper, interviewing key players and uncovering long-buried secrets, she realizes that the real killer may still be out there—and they’ll do anything to keep the truth hidden.

🍜GMS Faculty cook-off to honor Mr. Demmie
Spicing Up Retirement: Chili Cook-Off Honors Beloved Teacher
The halls of Garfield Middle School were filled with the rich aroma of simmering spices on February 7th as faculty and staff gathered for a special chili cook-off. The event, held in honor of retiring Science teacher Mr. Demmie was a fitting tribute to his many years of dedication and passion for education.
The Media Center was transformed into a chili lover’s paradise, with contestants vying for the title of “Best Chili.” Teachers dusted off their family recipes, each hoping to impress the judges, which included Mr. Demmie himself. Attendees sampled a variety of chilis ranging from mild and sweet to extra spicy, with some featuring unexpected ingredients.
“Mr. Demmie has always brought warmth and enthusiasm to his teaching, so what better way to celebrate him than with a chili cook-off?” said Principal Rigoglioso. “It’s a fun way to honor his legacy and bring everyone together.”
As the competition heated up, so did the friendly rivalries. In the end, the winner, Mr. LaMonico won over both the judges and attendees. This was his second year in row winning the prize. Will there be a THREE-peat? We shall see.
Congratulations to Mr. Demmie on his well-deserved retirement, and thank you for a career well-spent shaping young minds!
