This week both our 7th and 8th grade football and volleyball teams start their fall season with home contests this week.

A jotfrom sign up email will be sent to our parents' email as of Sunday, Sept. 20th at noon. Please complete the form by no later than Tuesday, Sept. 22nd at 1pm for your knight to attend the either or both home games. If your knight is attending the game(s) continue reading below for our RMS game attendance protocol.

We thank our families for partnering with us to ensure our athletic events remain enjoyable for all. We look forward to cheering on our teams together throughout each seasons.

Game Attendance Protocol- The process ensures that all of our middle school students and families understand the expectations for attending games. Our goal is to provide a safe, positive, and family-friendly environment for everyone in attendance.

What students need to attend:

  1. Student Identification-
Students must bring a physical school ID in order to attend the event. Digital copies or photos are not accepted. Virtual students need to set up a time to come to RMS and have a picture taken for their student ID. Please call the main office to set up a time.

  2. Parent/Guardian Registration-
A parent/guardian must complete the JotForm registration by 1:00 pm the day of the event. This form helps us maintain accurate records and ensure accountability. If the form is not completed, the students are not permitted to enter the event. One form can be completed for any games scheduled for that designated week.

  3. Behavior Expectations-
Students are expected to represent our school with positive behavior and sportsmanship. If a student misbehaves, they may be asked to leave. In this situation, the parent/guardian who signed the student in is responsible for leaving with the student.

  4. Students are expected to be engaged in the event and not disrupt the other spectators. (ie: running, inappropriate language, etc)

  5. These guidelines are in place to promote safety, accountability, and school spirit. We appreciate our families support in reinforcing these expectations with their student before attending.

Guess the staff member

Thank you to Mrs. Radulski who created a engaging activity for our Knights to "guess who the RMS staff member is" based on four clues. We have a location with the poster outside room 121 that provides hints of who the staff member may be throughout the week. The staff member reveal is shared at the end of the week. Any student who shared the right answers earns an incentive prize.

Second Steps lessons for the week of Sept. 21st

7th grade

Lesson 2: Creating New Pathways in Your Brain-

Unit Theme-Mindset and Goals

Summary: This week’s lesson will help our 7th grade knights understand how their brain changes when they learn something new. They'll explore how overcoming challenges helps build new connections in the brain.

At home connecter: Tell your knight about a time you had to learn something challenging and how you kept going despite difficulties. Ask them about something they've learned recently that was difficult at first but got easier with practice.

8th grade

Lesson 2: Adjust and Achieve-

Unit Theme-Mindset and Goals

We want to thank our RMS families and friends for their tremendous amount of support and generosity. Our Castle Crew has done it again. For the 4th straight year, we not only met, but we exceeded our school and stretch goal for donations. The attached image is of our current stats through Friday, Sept. 18th but any donations that are received through 10/4 count towards our individual, class and house incentives. Outside Food and Beverage Policy

The district does not allow the delivery of food and beverages from outside vendors or fast food establishments for a student’s breakfast or lunch meal. All meals are to be provided by either our Food Service program or prepared at home and sent with your student.

Outside food delivery is a safety concern. We do not want to have strangers and people that we do not know coming to our buildings with delivery bags. It also is a workload issue for office personnel. Managing multiple food deliveries during lunchtime becomes an additional responsibility for our office staff.

The District works hard to provide a variety of healthy, good-tasting food in its cafeterias, and students are always free to bring their own lunch to school. We will continue to follow our past practice of making sure students receive lunch if they forget to bring one from home.

14. Respect all officials at all times as the number of officials available is declining. Don't be a reason why an official will not work a Fraser event in the future.

As always, the safety of our staff, students, and families remains our top priority. These additional measures will support our students in making good choices and create a safe environment for all to enjoy the event. We encourage our families and students to take advantage of these athletic events. We can come together with our school community and reconnect with family and friends. To provide the most effective process for entering and exiting Richards Middle School, we need our families consistent help in observing the below traffic expectations:

  • Our RMS bus loop is only to be used by emergency vehicles and our district’s school buses between the hours of 7:15 am through 4:00 pm.
  • To help with our daily traffic flow, please follow our painted traffic arrows in our parking lot.
  • In supporting our traffic flow for entering and exiting for all vehicles, please observe no standing, parking, waiting and stopping in the parking lot aisle ways.
  • When exiting Richards Middle School at dismissal time, please utilize either our RMS Garfield exit, FHS Garfield exit or FHS Klein exit.

Please be aware of students, families and guests who are walking in our parking lots by obeying traffic laws, regulating your speed, and following the traffic direction arrows. Images can be found below. Please no parking or standing where you see a red x.

Our district security personnel will communicate these expectations to our families when needed. Thank you for your support with keeping RMS a safe travel area for everyone on campus.

PLEASE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR ADDITIONAL SIGNS ALONG THE DROP OFF LANE TO HELP DIRECT TRAFFIC FLOW! PLEASE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR ADDITIONAL SIGNS ALONG THE DROP OFF LANE TO HELP DIRECT TRAFFIC FLOW!

Attention students who utilize the crosswalk to walk over Garfield Road

This is a reminder to our students to ensure that you are using the appropriate area to cross the street to get to the other side of Garfield. Please see pictures below for reference of our crosswalk signs and striped area by the Richards Middle School Electronic Board. We want our students to make sure they are looking both ways and being aware of vehicles traveling on Garfield. Always wait to cross this crosswalk when the road is clear to do so.

We thank you for always being aware of your safety and traveling vehicles as you arrive and leave RMS at this crosswalk area.
