This week, I have been fortunate to share in many joyful moments across our school. From students celebrating their achievements, to families supporting school events and staff creating engaging learning opportunities each day, it’s awesome to be part of the kindness that make St Bernadette’s such a special place. Our students thrive when others around them show care for each other.

This week, a group of our students participated in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Showcase, where they had the opportunity to share their learning and present their projects alongside students from other schools. The event provided a valuable experience for students to explain their ideas, answer questions and see the creative approaches taken by others. Throughout the day, our students represented St Bernadette’s well. We thank them for their efforts and willingness to embrace this opportunity. A special thank you to Miss Casey Hewitt and Mr Wayne Sly for organising and supporting our students throughout the experience and to the families who encouraged and supported their participation.

A reminder to all families that lollies are not permitted at school and should not be included in students' lunchboxes. While we know children enjoy sweet treats; however, school is a place where we encourage healthy eating habits that support learning, concentration and wellbeing throughout the day. We ask parents to help us by saving lollies and other confectionery for weekends and special occasions outside of school. Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a healthy school environment for all students.

A reminder that swimming lessons begin next week for all students in Pre Primary to Year 6. Please ensure all student belongings are clearly labelled, including towels, clothing, hats, goggles and shoes. Class teachers have shared swimming timetables via Seesaw, so please check these messages if you are unsure when your child's session will be. As with any whole school extracurricular event, we appreciate everyone's flexibility and support especially for the team of swimming instructors running the swimming lessons. We look forward to a fun and valuable week of swimming and water safety learning.

Finally, I look forward to seeing many of you at the Parish and School Community Mass and sausage sizzle tomorrow evening. Mass begins at 6.00pm and will be hosted by our Pre Primary students but all families across the school are warmly welcome to attend. It promises to be a lovely opportunity to come together, connect and celebrate our wonderful school and parish community.

Wishing you all a fabulous weekend!

Tracy

My favourite part of the excursion to the museum was when me and my friend went on an old carousel horse and the lights started flashing. We also enjoyed looking at the city view from the museum. - Matthew 5B.

The excursion was fun and interesting for all! We learnt lot’s new things as we completed a scavenger hunt. My favourite part was seeing the dinosaur bones and playing with the interactive games. I had an amazing time and hopefully I will see it again. - Aria 5B.

My favourite part of the excursion to the Museum was going to the digital table and learning about Tim Tams. I loved it! - Blake 5R

I enjoyed looking at the original uniforms of lots of sports like the cheer teams, netball, gymnastics and so many more. It was super fascinating! - Storm 5R

Enrichment - CEWA STEM Showcase 2026

On Wednesday 12th August, our 16 STEM Challenge students proudly represented St Bernadette’s at the CEWA STEM Showcase at Mercy College. It was an exciting event that brought together Perth schools for a day of hands-on STEM learning and innovation. Students engaged with a panel of STEM professionals including a data analysis, a mechanical engineer, a statistician and an environmental scientist, as well as many other STEM Industry representatives. This provided students with valuable insights into real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Our students also had the opportunity to present their own STEM projects, developed through weeks of dedicated research and creativity, as well as explore those created by other schools. Our projects included:

  • Aqua Guard: An underwater drone that collects pollution before it reaches the ocean.
  • The Good Greenhouse: A sustainable greenhouse that grows fresh food year-round.
  • Eco Dune X: A smart barrier that reduces coastal erosion and protects wildlife habitats.
  • Super Solar: A safer, more sustainable solar panel system that protects wildlife.
  • Rhinos Matter Co: An artificial rhino horn designed to reduce poaching and protect rhinos.
  • Giving Work Vibes: Sustainable women’s workwear designed for comfort, safety and practicality.

It was an inspiring day that celebrated innovation, teamwork, and the bright future of STEM in our schools.

Miss Hewitt and Mr Sly

In the Catholic tradition, our parish and school are closely connected.

The parish, led by Father Giovanni, provides spiritual leadership and is responsible for ensuring we nurture students’ faith alongside academic learning. The school supports the parish by helping children grow in Catholic values, preparing them for sacraments, and encouraging family participation in parish life.

It’s essentially a partnership — the parish is the faith community, and the school is one of its key ministries. For more information about our Parish, please click here:
