Changes in bus dismissal for students
Children are listed on bus lists based on the 2 locations designated on the transportation registration form (home and a daycare facility). The form lists the locations and specific days children have changes. Children shoule be picked up at their scheduled location. We realize that emergencies do develop that require last minute changes in transportation. These must be approved by the administration, but cannot be a different bus from the 2 designated locations.
Changes in dismissal for students (walkers)
1. In the morning, write a note to the school and have your child give it to their classroom teacher stating the needed change. Written notes are to be sent if a child does or does not take a bus or will be going home to another student’s house. Notes are needed from BOTH sets of parents, the sending and the receiving parent, so that neither parent gets a “surprise visitor” or gets worried thinking that their child is lost.
2. It is very important you, as the parent, tell your child the change in plans when giving them the note. Frequently children are not aware of the change although the parent knew this prior to the day the change is to occur.
3. If a phone call must be made by a parent regarding an emergency change in dismissal, the office must be contacted before 1:00 in the afternoon. Due to the many demands on the office personnel and teachers, we cannot ensure that messages will get to your child at the last minute. Classrooms and the office are very busy places especially at the end of the day.
**Please keep in mind that frequent changes daily or weekly in your child’s end of the day plans are confusing for your child and the school.
Students who participate in any after school programs will be kept at school unless a parent/guardian notifies the school that the child will not be attending the program that day.

Student Absence/Hotline Attendance
Parents have two options when reporting their child’s absence from school.
OPTION 1 Parents may call between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. This option allows parents to be connected with the District #10 Administrative Center Voice Mail System.
To report an absence at FRANZEN INTERMEDIATE dial 1-630-773-1232 and press 7004.
By pressing the extension number you will gain access to the Student Absence Hotline. Upon gaining access to the Hot Line, please state:
1. Your child’s full name
2. His/her teacher’s name
3. Reason for absence
4. Dates and/or amount of time your child will be absent from school
5. Telephone number where you may be reached during the day
6. Requests for homework at Franzen need to be made by 9:00 a.m. or we cannot guarantee it will be ready.
Homework can be picked up after 3:15 p.m. and before 4:00 p.m.
OPTION 2 Parents may call the school offices between 7:50 am - 8:20 am and give the appropriate information to the school secretary.

If a child forgets his/her lunch or a parent is planning a surprise lunch.
Children can either call their parents from their classroom in the morning or go to the office to call their parents.
Children can check in the office to see if someone has brought lunch to school for them. If it has not been brought, a call can be made at that time.
All lunches dropped off during the school day should be placed on the cart in the main office vestibule and labeled with the student’s first and last name and grade. The office will notify the student.
If the lunch is a surprise - please let the office staff know so that we can notify the student.
Franzen does not have personnel or the supplies to make lunches.

Lost and Found
Checking the lost and found is a helpful way to retrieve misplaced items. Parents and students should regularly visit the designated lost and found area. Commonly found items include jackets, lunchboxes, and water bottles. It's beneficial to label belongings with the student's name to increase the chances of recovering lost items. Regularly checking the lost and found helps reduce clutter and ensures students have their necessary belongings.
Birthday Celebrations
Students may only distribute birthday invitations at school if they are inviting their entire classroom of boys and/or entire classroom of girls. Students are not allowed to leave their class to deliver invitations to other classrooms. Students may only bring non-food items to share with their classmates.
