Happy Monster Bash Eve!
It has been great having everyone back in the building after fall break. The cooler temperatures have also been amazing, hopefully the fall weather hangs on for awhile before winter sets in. I hope to see you all at the Monster Bash tomorrow night!
Have a great weekend,
Andy
Weekly Updates
New This Week:
- Our 3rd grade music program has a date change! Due to some unforeseen circumstances the program will be moved to March 25th, which is the Thursday right after spring break. Following up from a previous mailbag question. We aren't going to be able to split this into 2 programs, but we will offer an additional performance during the school day for older family members and anyone with mobility concerns.
- Our Lunch Book Club is back for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders! This club gives students a fantastic opportunity to share their thoughts on great literature, connect with peers, and build confidence in their reading journey. Students will read one engaging chapter book selected specifically for their grade level. Reading is completed independently outside of class, and then we gather once a week during lunchtime to discuss the chapters, share perspectives, and dive into fun, book-related activities! Spaces are limited to keep our discussion groups engaging. Please sign up using the link below. The deadline to sign up is Sunday, October 25th. After registration is closed, I will conduct a lottery and notify families by Monday, October 26th. If your child doesn't get in this time, they will have another opportunity next quarter. :) Click Here to Sign Up
- The Monster Bash silent auction is live! So many cool experiences in there including Pacers floor seats, an IU Football gameday experience duffel, premium seats for music programs, and so much more!
- Also at the Monster Bash, we will be selling old incentive apparel in the cafeteria. This will be a cash only sale where you can get a t-shirt for $5 and/or sweatpants or hoodies for $10. Additionally, our new color run incentive gear should be in any day!
- There are still openings for 5th graders in Mrs. Noth's Lunch & Logic! Sign up here!
- Veterans Day is just around the corner. It also falls on a Wednesday this year. We have been planning with the junior high and this year the festivities will begin at EJHS. Their program will begin between 8:45-9:00ish. The EIS/EPS program will begin at approximately 10:15 a.m. More information to come!
- Our Scholastic Book Fair is up and running! A letter is attached below this section with all of the details. Mrs. Andrews asked me to pass along that if you are setting up an e-wallet to make sure you use Edgewood Intermediate in Bloomington because there are actually two other Edgewood Intermediates around the country! Also, 3rd grade families, be sure to use EIS and not EPS, those funds are not interchangeable.
New Indiana Math Intervention Process
This school year, Indiana requires schools to use ILEARN Mathematics Checkpoint results to identify students who may need additional math support. Teachers will review and triangulate ILEARN Checkpoint data along with classroom assessments, student work, and teacher observations to get a more complete picture of each student’s needs.
If the data guideposts show that your child needs additional math support, the interventions will be documented in an Individual Mathematics Plan. This is not a special education plan or IEP. It simply documents the math skills being targeted, the interventions being provided, and your child’s progress. Families will be able to access this information electronically through the Cambium Family Portal.
Please keep in mind that grade levels take ILEARN Checkpoints at different times throughout the testing window, so Individual Mathematics Plans will not all be created or shared at the same time. Families may receive this information at different points in the year depending on when their child’s grade level completes a Checkpoint and the data review process.
Because this is a brand-new state process for schools and teachers, we appreciate your patience as we learn and refine our systems throughout the year.

Connection Corner
From our Counseling Team:
In our connection corner for this month, we are focusing on an important Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) core principle: "No Hurts."
For upper elementary students (3rd–5th grade), "No Hurts" goes beyond physical safety. While it reminds students to keep their hands and bodies to themselves, it also emphasizes emotional safety—teaching kids that our words and actions should build others up rather than cause hurt.
Here is what we are learning together:
Physical Safety: Respecting personal space and keeping hands, feet, and objects to ourselves.
Emotional Safety: Understanding how words, body language, and tone impact others, and choosing kindness over put-downs or teasing.
Repairing Relationships: Learning how to own up to mistakes, offer genuine apologies, and practice "do-overs" when a hurt occurs.
How you can practice "No Hurts" at home:
Model Emotional Safety: Use calm, respectful words when working through frustrations or conflicts at home.
Practice "Do-Overs": If a sibling or family member uses harsh words, offer them a quick opportunity for a "do-over" using respectful language.
Check In: Ask your child, "How did you practice keeping things 'No Hurts' with your friends or classmates today?"
Creating a safe, supportive environment allows our students to thrive both emotionally and academically. Thank you for partnering with us to reinforce these valuable life skills. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
-Mrs. Howell (Social Worker) and Mrs. Johnson (Counselor)
Principal's Mailbag
- The first question this week asked if I could tell everyone which 5th grade teachers are in each pod for Bradford Woods planning purposes. Great question! Here is that information:
- Pod B - May 3-5 (Burleson, Dunn, Rodriguez, Carmack)
- Pod A - May 5-7 (Majors, Crawford, Dixon, Simmons)
- The next question asked about recess time being taken from entire classes as a form of discipline. I am going to bring this to my teacher leadership team to find out more. I know sometimes if a student uses their instructional time for recess then we will use some of their recess time for instruction. Stay tuned on this one!
