Superintendent'sUpdateSeptember 26, 2025

Dear CCPS Families -

It's hard to believe that we're already a month into the school year and that October is just around the corner! As the weeks pass, I have a few important updates to share.

Supporting Our Teacher of the Year

This evening, I have the honor of attending the Maryland State Teacher of the Year Gala to support our very own 2025 Teacher of the Year, Taylor Schafer. We are incredibly proud of Taylor and all the outstanding Teacher of the Year candidates representing our state.

First Marking Period Interims

A friendly reminder that the interim period closes on September 29 and the reports will be issued on October 7. This is a great time to check in on your student's progress as we approach the halfway point of the marking period.

College and Career Night

We're excited to host our annual College and Career Night on Wednesday, October 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rising Sun High School. This is a fantastic opportunity for students and families to meet with over 75 representatives from colleges, universities, and technical programs. We hope to see you there!

Top Building for a Top Cause

In October, CCPS will be participating in the Top Building for a Top Cause campaign to support breast cancer research. All the proceeds we raise will go directly to the ChristianaCare Breast Health Center at Union Hospital, supporting their vital work in our community. We encourage everyone to get involved and help us make a difference for this important cause.

Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and schools.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.

What a great start to our 6th-grade outdoor education program! Our students had their first adventure at NorthBay, where they enjoyed beautiful weather, hands-on learning, and the chance to step out of their comfort zones. We're so proud of all the brave kids who tried something new.

This is the first of three trips to NorthBay. The students will be heading back in the winter and spring for more unforgettable experiences. We are thrilled to be able to offer this program to all of our 6th-grade students.
