The Cohasset Compass
Ever Onward ~ Moving Our Schools Into the Future
June 25, 2026
Dear Cohasset Public Schools Community,
Thank you all ~ students, staff, and families ~ for an amazing school year. I can't and I can believe it's over. When June started, it felt like the 25th would never get here and yet here it is. I am so grateful for this community and all you each bring to it. I hope you and yours have a wonderful and restful summer. We can't wait to see you in September ~ there are lots of exciting things to look forward to!
Enjoy the sun and ever onward,
Sarah
🌼 Oh So Good at Osgood 🌼
Osgood has a beautiful new mural!
It is a piece of art that demonstrates the power of true collaboration- what can happen when communities support schools in authentic ways.
Mrs. Richardson, local artist, gallery owner, and Osgood parent had the idea for the mural and she collaborated with Mrs. Helveston, Osgood art teacher, to make the idea come to life. She reached out to local businesses for donations of time and resources:
Members of Ellis Realty Advisors team white washed the wall to prep it.
Then, Mrs. Helveston invited one class at a time so that every 2025-26 student could leave their mark on the wall. Parent volunteers join us with every class.
Volunteers from Aubuchon Hardware, House of Art, and Lisa Marder, local artist, worked with Mrs. Helveston and Mrs. Richardson to paint the mural itself, with Mayo Designs doing the lettering.
Every time you walk past this wall, we hope it reminds you that you belong here, and you matter…you are brave, kind, talented, loved, and creative…so follow your dreams.
Thank you to all of you in our Osgood school community that made this happen!
Osgood Roof Project Set to Begin
With tomorrow being our last day of school, our Osgood roof project is set to begin. Construction crews will be arriving onsite on Friday to begin preparations and the work will begin in earnest not long after that. The first things that will happen will primarily be material deliveries and safety fencing and setup. The project will roll from there.
It’s important to note that our own elementary extended school year has been moved to Deer Hill and that Ted Carroll at the Rec Department has accommodated for the work happening. He will communicate any changes and/or impact directly to any families participating in Rec Camp this summer.
The project is set to conclude before the 2026 -2027 school year begins. Any questions about the project can be directed to Sarah Shannon (sshannon@cohassetk12.org).

Kicking off CPS's Own Before and After School Program
Starting this September, CPS will be running our own Before and After School Program as Cohasset Rec sunsets the RISE program. We are excited to bring this programming in house and to have consistency in staffing. Mr. Brett Youmans will continue to be the program director and he is excited to continue to grow and enhance an already great program. While more information will be forthcoming, we want to share some details with families now for planning purposes. Please reach out to Mr. Youmans (byoumans@cohassetk12.org) or Dr. Scollins (lscollins@cohassetk12.org) with any questions.
Summer Hours in CPS
The summer hours posted below are our typical summer office hours (please know that any changes that impact this schedule will be posted on the schools/district websites). Please reach out directly to each school principal with specific visit requests or other questions/concerns.
Kicking off the 2026 - 2027 School Year:
While I don’t want any of us to wish summer away, I do want to be sure that the start of the 2026 - 2027 school year dates are on your calendar. Please mark:
Wednesday, September 2, 2026 as the first day of school for all students in grades 1 - 12
Thursday, September 3, 2026 as the first day for our Kindergarten students, and
Tuesday, September 8, 2026 as our first day of school for our Pre-K students.
It is important to note that due to when Labor Day falls on the calendar this September, school for all of our students K-12 will kick their year off before the holiday weekend. PK is the only exception to that scenario.
Have a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing many of you out and about!
