Accountability Results & Next Steps
Dear KISD Families & Staff,
Yesterday, the Texas Education Agency released the 2026 A–F Accountability Ratings for schools across Texas. I am proud to share that Killeen ISD made strong progress.
Our district improved five points, from a 74 in 2025 to a 79 in 2026. We are now just one point away from a B rating.
These results show us where students are doing well and where we need to improve. They also show that the hard work taking place across our district is making a difference.
We saw strong gains at our high schools. Harker Heights High School moved from a B (86) to an A (92). Killeen High School improved 10 points, moving from a C (73) to a B (83). Early College High School and Pathways Academic Campus also earned A ratings (98 and 94, respectively). Our other high schools — Ellison, Chaparral and Shoemaker — all demonstrated growth, with Ellison and Chaparral improving their B ratings and Shoemaker increasing to a 79, just one point away from a B.
Some of our greatest growth came from our middle schools, which have been an important focus for our district.
Rancier Middle School improved 16 points, moving from a D (63) to a C (79). Manor Middle School improved 15 points, moving from an F (59) to a C (74). Roy J. Smith Middle School gained 10 points to earn a B (81), and Nolan Middle School also moved from a C (78) to a B (81). JDA and Live Oak Ridge middle schools moved from D ratings of 67 and 61 to C ratings of 79 and 73. Union Grove and Audie Murphy improved by seven and six points, respectively, while maintaining C ratings. Eastern Hills and Palo Alto improved from F ratings to D ratings.
Our elementary results were more mixed, and we know there is work to do. Still, several schools made strong gains. Oveta Culp Hobby Elementary moved from a C (78) to an A (90). Nolanville, Cedar Valley, Montague Village, Haynes, Saegert, Fowler and Willow Springs elementary schools moved from C ratings to B ratings. Hay Branch and Alice W. Douse moved from D ratings of 61 and 64 to C ratings of 75.
These numbers are about more than school ratings. Behind every point gained is a student who learned more, a teacher who helped that student grow and a family who supported learning at home.
A five-point gain is worth celebrating, but a 79 is not our finish line. We are proud of our progress, and we also know that not every school saw the growth we want.
Every student deserves a great education, no matter which Killeen ISD school they attend. We will build on what is working and give more support to the schools and students who need it.
Our goal is not simply to earn higher ratings. Our goal is to help every student learn, grow and reach their full potential. When students grow, our schools get stronger.
Families are an important part of that work. Good attendance, encouragement at home and regular communication with teachers all make a difference.
To our employees, thank you for your commitment to our students. To our families, thank you for trusting Killeen ISD with your children.
We have made progress, but our work is not finished. I believe in our students. I believe in our employees. And I believe in what we can accomplish when our schools, families and community work together.
Together, we will continue moving Killeen ISD forward.
