Hines Mission and Vision
Mission: At Hines Elementary, it is our unwavering commitment to establish a safe and inclusive learning environment. Our students will feel loved, supported, and find joy in learning. ❤️
Vision: At Hines Elementary, we are committed to cultivating a vibrant and dynamic learning environment that ignites curiosity, fosters creativity, and celebrates student achievements. We are dedicated to providing opportunities for critical thinking that are essential for academic success and positive character growth. Through collaboration with families and the wider community, we strive to empower our students to reach their full potential and become responsible, compassionate, and engaged citizens.
A Note from Mrs. Mathe
We have many events coming up this next week including:
- District Art Show (7 Hines Students art work will be on display in CISD central admin building!)
- Watch DOGS kick off
- Read for a Better Life
- Family Paint Night
We hope to see you around for one of these fun events! Today I want to highlight a couple of the murals added to our building this year. Before school started, our staff painted portraits of one another, celebrating our unique qualities. These portraits represent how all of our “one of a kind” characteristics and talents come together to make our campus a special place.
Our amazing art teachers brought this idea to life with our students as well. The students created self-portraits that showcase the unique qualities that make each of them truly “one of a kind.”
I love how both of these murals reflect the words of Dr. Hines, our school’s namesake, who shared as we were preparing to open the school: “Every child that walks through the door is precious, worthy, and deserving of our best efforts each and every day.”
Recognize a Staff Member with a TAE!
Do you want to recognize one of our amazing Hines staff members for a job well done? Did you know you can submit a TAE — Teacher Achieving Excellence — to celebrate their hard work and dedication?
Follow these quick steps to submit a TAE:
Step 1: Go to your SSO
Step 2: Click on Home Access Center (HAC)
Step 3: Select the District Applications tab
Step 4: Click on the Teachers Achieving Excellence tab
Step 5: Choose the staff member’s name and write your recognition
Step 6: Submit!
Once submitted, the staff member’s supervisors are notified of their job well done, and these recognitions are used to celebrate our team during Hines Shines each week.
Help us spread joy and show appreciation by sending some love to our well-deserving staff members today!
Traffic Updates
Precinct 3 has begun a traffic study around our campus and, as a result, new signage will soon be installed along Lexington and Woodbridge Cove (including the dead end). These signs will prohibit cars from parking, stopping, or standing along the side of the road in these areas.
We have asked families not to drop off or pick up students along the curbs in the past, as it creates both traffic and safety concerns. Once the new signs are in place, it will officially be illegal to do so, and drivers may be subject to tickets. If you have been using these areas for arrival or dismissal, please begin making alternate arrangements now.
For the safety of all students and families, please remember:
-
There is no student drop-off or pick-up allowed in the bus ramp.
-
Students should only be dropped off and picked up in the designated car rider areas.
-
If your child is a biker or walker, they should bike or walk directly home. If they are meeting a car, they are considered a car rider and must be picked up in the car rider line.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and orderly environment for everyone. Our shared goal is to ensure that every child arrives at and leaves school safely each day.

Attendance Incentive Kickoff!
We are excited to launch a new incentive for great attendance! Last year, we were proud to celebrate that our campus had the highest attendance rate in the district. This year, we want to keep building on that success by encouraging students to be present for initial instruction every day.
Our campus leadership teams, along with the PTO, have created a special celebration each nine weeks to recognize students who maintain strong attendance.
-
First Nine Weeks: On October 17th, we will host ALL of our Huskies during specials to kick off the program, promote good attendance, and show students what they can earn in the next grading period.
-
Starting Second Nine Weeks: Students who miss 1 or fewer days and have 2 or fewer tardies will earn the opportunity to attend the celebration.
This is our way of recognizing and celebrating students who make the effort to be on time and at school each day when they are well. We can’t wait to continue building a culture of strong attendance at Hines!
Friday Highlight Video
Every week, Mrs. Halbrook, one of our 4th grade teachers, compiles the pictures taken on campus in a highlight video. The students look forward to watching it each week and seeing themself on the big screen! Click below to view this week's video. https://animoto.com/play/1RArmPbI1s9HiyAGFXEVdw
Student Spotlight
We are excited to introduce a new section in The Hines Herald called Student Spotlight! This feature will celebrate the amazing achievements, acts of kindness, and positive contributions of our Huskies both inside and outside of school. In this section, we will highlight students who have gone above and beyond—whether it’s reaching a personal goal, helping others, or making a difference in the community. We can’t wait to share these inspiring stories and honor the incredible ways our students shine!
Congratulations to Lawson L. in 3rd Grade! Lawson recently tried out for the first time for Fortress Martial Arts’ Demo Team and made it! He earned a spot performing 50% of the weapons demonstrations and a solo martial arts sequence — an incredible achievement, especially since he’s 2-3 years younger than the other team members. Way to go, Lawson! We are so proud of you!
HINES SHINES
We are excited to launch a new section in our newsletter, Hines Shines, where we celebrate students who go above and beyond in showing kindness, leadership, hard work, and exceptional behavior and exemplifying our Husky HOWL. These shining stars make Hines a better place every day, and we can’t wait to recognize their amazing contributions!
