Madison Middle School

Last week our 6th and 7th grade DLI students participated in their first middle school showcase. As 8th grade students, they will be asked to present formally before a panel as part of their journey in getting the Seal of Biliteracy. Our 6th and 7th grade students presented projects where they were tour guides; they chose several destinations and planned a cost-effective trip using their math and Spanish skills! Families and members from other sites attended to see the awesome work our kids have done!

Also last week our 6th grade students learned about chemistry and volcanoes as they created and simulated eruptions in Slime &. Boom explore lab! We are relieved to report there were no injuries!

As we enter the last two weeks of school, students will be returning school items: books, Chromebooks, and Yondr pouches.

On Tuesday, May 26, students will be turning in their Yondr pouches during period 1. Pouches were checked out to each student with a bar code and their name in it. If either of those is missing, please ensure student's names are written on a piece of paper and placed in the name window. As communicated back in November, any damaged or missing pouches will result in a $30 charge. For your reference, here is the original information letters in English & Spanish.

Any student absent on Tuesday should report to the library during 1st period on the next school day they return to turn in their Yondr pouch.

We are hoping to increase our zero period course offerings for students:

-- AVID: college readiness and support (7th and 8th grade only)

-- Hermanitas & Encuentros: Mentorship program for uplifting and improving the educational and professional outcomes of Latino and Latina youth (All grades and ethnicities are welcome)

-- Spanish I: An introductory Spanish language course.

-- Cricut Maker Lab: An art class using Cricut technology.

--Paxton Patterson Career Exploration Lab: Student have a variety of career modules that they independently (or in groups) to learn about and experience different careers.

Period zero meets Tuesday - Friday from 8:00am to 8:55am.

Period zero does NOT meet on Mondays.

AVID and Career Exploration are also offered during the regular school day, but the rest are zero period only. This gives students the opportunity to take an additional elective as well as have a place to learn if dropped off early. A student's enrollment in the AM/PM program is NOT a requirement.

Please know that this interest form is helping us determine if we are able to offer these classes. Offerings are based on student interest and our ability to staff the teaching positions. We will email parents before or by June 30th with an update on the class status.

-- Laboratorio de exploración profesional Paxton Patterson: los alumnos disponen de diversos módulos profesionales que pueden realizar de forma independiente (o en grupos) para conocer y experimentar diferentes carreras profesionales.

El periodo cero se imparte de martes a viernes de 8:00 a 8:55 de la mañana.

El periodo cero NO se imparte los lunes.

AVID y la exploración profesional también se ofrecen durante la jornada escolar habitual, pero el resto son solo del periodo cero. Esto brinda a los alumnos la oportunidad de cursar una asignatura optativa adicional, así como de tener un lugar donde aprender si llegan temprano. La inscripción de un alumno en el programa AM/PM NO es un requisito.

Tenga en cuenta que este formulario de interés nos ayuda a determinar si podemos ofrecer estas clases. La oferta se basa en el interés de los alumnos y en nuestra capacidad para cubrir los puestos docentes. We are writing to inform you of an important change regarding our upcoming 8th grade field trip to Knott’s Berry Farm. Due to a current bus driver shortage, we need to adjust the date of the trip. The trip was originally scheduled for Thursday, May 21st; however, we have now secured transportation for Wednesday, June 3rd.

We understand that schedule changes can be inconvenient, and we appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we work to ensure that our students are still able to participate in this special end-of-year experience. All other details regarding the trip will remain the same. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.
