Every day, Every Student!
The Importance in attending school!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
At Riverton Middle School, one of our most important responsibilities is preparing students not only for the transition to high school, but also for the foundational habits that will lead to lifelong success. The routines and behaviors they develop during these critical middle school years will play a vital role in their future.
With that goal in mind, we are emphasizing the importance of consistent school attendance. Every day provides valuable opportunities for learning, building friendships, developing new skills, and preparing for the increasing responsibilities students will face as they grow. When students miss school, they miss more than classroom instruction; they can also miss opportunities to connect with peers, participate in meaningful middle school experiences, and build the routines that will serve them well in the years ahead.
As part of this effort, we are encouraging students to have no more than three absences per semester and no more than six absences during the school year. These are goals we are establishing to promote consistent attendance and help students make the most of their educational experience. We recognize that illness, family circumstances, appointments, and other unexpected situations sometimes make absences unavoidable. Our intention is not to overlook those realities or to treat every absence the same. Rather, we want to work in partnership with families to identify barriers, provide support when needed, and reinforce the importance of being present whenever possible.
Throughout the school year, we will monitor attendance by grade level and share regular updates with our students. We will celebrate progress, identify areas where additional support may be needed, and continue working together to strengthen our attendance culture.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of Riverton Middle School. Together, we can help every Hawk make each day count.
2026 Schoolmasters Honor Band at Glenwood High School
Honor Band
Riverton Middle School's 7/8th grade bands had 11 students participate in this year's School Master's Honor Band held on Wednesday, October 21stth at Glenwood High School. These 11 students were selected to participate with approximately 100 other students from 9 total schools to participate in the event. To prepare for this the students met after school twice a week to rehearse and learn their music with their band director and then over their fall break they dedicated a day of rehearsal with the guest conductor Mrs. Debbie Johnson from Quincy Public Schools. The students performed five different pieces for their concert that night and did an amazing job. Parents and band directors in the audience were impressed with the hard work and dedication these students showed with their performances. Great job band!

Math Jams!
7th grade Honor Math class participated in Math Jams.
Congratulations to Mrs. Clark's 7th grade math class who participated in Math Jams during first quarter. The results were received over fall break and our RMS Honors Math ranked #1! We are proud of our students for their hard work, teamwork, and mathematical thinking. Way to go, Hawks!
Cold Weather is appoaching.
🧥 Brrr... Cooler Weather is Here! A Quick Recess Reminder 🍂
As the seasons change and the weather starts to cool down, we want to make sure all our students stay warm, comfortable, and ready to play during outdoor recess! When outdoor temperatures are 50 degrees or below, students should wear long-sleeved shirts or a sweatshirt, along with long pants.
Because the weather can be unpredictable, we highly encourage students to keep an extra sweatshirt in their locker. This ensures they are always prepared for sudden temperature drops.
Thank you for helping us keep our students bundled up and having fun!
Upstander's Recognized.
Congratulations.
Upstander's are student who stand up for other students as well as demonstrate positive behavior towards others. Congratulations to these three students for stepping up as leaders. From left to right - Dominic Robb, Harlem Brown-Joiner, and Trent Petitt.
6th Grade Art created hand-drawn pumpkin fields.
Pumpkin Fields
The pumpkin fields are drawn while learning about one-point perspective, using lines that lead toward a single vanishing point to make their artwork look like it stretches into the distance. They also explored several techniques with oil pastels, watercolor, and ink, layering color, texture, and details to create these mixed-media pieces. So many skills in one project, and so much individual creativity.
American Gothic Parodies
Middle School Art
American Gothic with a Twist! Our students created hand-drawn parodies of Grant Wood's famous painting, keeping it recognizable while changing characters and details to add their own humor and personality. A parody is a playful take on an original artwork, and these artists had some wonderfully funny ideas! We are proud of their creativity, drawing skills, and the thought they put into making each version their own.
Tuck Everlasting!
6th grade ELA project.
Mrs. Stratton's and Mrs. Mutzbauer's classes worked on visualization today in class with the novel, Tuck Everlasting. The kids first sketched out the image visualized from chapter 5, then added color with water color paint. Our students enjoy hands-on learning projects.
5th grade Social Studies.
Colonization Week!
The 5th grade students are finishing a unit on colonization. They wrapped up their unit by investigating five different native tribes and how they were affected by European Colonization. What a fun project.
