5 Essentials Survey Opens Tuesday, February 3rd!!!! 5 Essentials Survey Opens Tuesday, February 3rd!!!!

The Illinois 5 Essentials Survey is opening on Tuesday, February 3rd, and we strongly encourage your participation. This survey is an essential opportunity for families to provide anonymous feedback about our schools.

Your input is extremely important! The results guide our decision-making as we work to make improvements across the school and district.

When parent participation is at 20% it is published as part of our Illinois School Report Cards. Last year Newport had 48% of our families complete the survey. We would love to have the same participation rate if not increase it from last year.

Once you have completed the anonymous survey, email your name and students name to Mrs. Pelli @ jpelli@bpd3.org and get entered for a drawing to receive a $25 gift card.

Tips From the Office Tips From the Office

A Couple of reminders:

  1. Fee Statements went home this week. If you feel that you would qualify for free or reduced fees, please fill out this form and return to the office.

  2. If you need assistance logging into the Parent Portal to check your students grades, report attendance or pay fees, please let me know and I will assist you.

  3. The lost and found bin is filled with a lot of sweatshirts, jackets and hats. If your child is missing anything, please encourage them to check the bin which is near the office.

  4. If your child is out for a medical or dental appointment, please bring (or email) me a Doctor’s note so the absence can be excused.

  5. Please remember to call when your child is absent. If I do not answer my phone, please leave a voice message as I check my voicemail frequently.

Germs are everywhere! We could say they're nothing to sneeze at but it is that time of year when those invisible party animals act like your hands are the hottest dance floor in the school. It is important to practice good hygiene and the best defense against those party animals is washing your hands!

Please remember these 5 steps when washing your hands:

  1. Wet: Wet your hands with clean, running water and apply soap.
  2. Lather: Rub your hands together with the soap to create a lather, covering the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
  3. Scrub: Scrub for at least 20 seconds (humming "Happy Birthday" twice helps time it).
  4. Rinse: Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
  5. Dry: Dry your hands with a towel or air dryer.

Don't forget to turn handwashing into a 20-second "dance party" and kick the germs off of the dance floor!
