Dear Needham Public Schools Families and Students:

In alignment with our District Priority to study and coordinate a response to chronic absenteeism to improve student outcomes and learning, especially for subgroups, the Needham Public Schools is partnering with the Center for Leadership and Educational Equity (CLEE). Together, we aim to better understand student attendance patterns, identify ways to strengthen student engagement, and continuously build our shared learning community to positively impact student success.

We believe that students, families, educators, and school leaders each hold important perspectives on what supports regular school attendance and what barriers may get in the way. As part of this initiative, we invite families and students to share their experiences by participating in upcoming focus groups.

Focus Group Details

CLEE will facilitate 60-minute virtual focus groups (approximately 10–12 participants per group) to gather deeper perspectives on student attendance and engagement.

Separate focus groups are being hosted for:

  • Parents/Guardians (held midday and evening)

  • Middle School Students (held during the school day)

  • High School Students (held during the school day)

Please fill out this brief interest form by October 30th: Attendance Focus Group Interest Form

If you have any questions regarding the attendance review or focus groups, please contact Mary Lammi at mary_lammi@needham.k12.ma.us

Thank you for your partnership and dedication to helping us make Needham Public Schools a place where each and every student can thrive.

Respectfully,

Dan Gutekanst
