VICE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Welcome February!
February is a month of many festivities from I Love to Read month and Valentine's Day to 100 day and Winter Fun day. There are many exciting events on the calendar to support a wide range of learning this month.
Our literacy committee has designed a month of Winter Olympics themed reading challenges and activities. We had an exciting kick-off assembly and our students are energized to read the month away. Please refer to our February 2026 I Love to Read calendar for a schedule of all of the exciting activities including visits from Steinbach Pistons players and special assembly guests such as Corny Rempel and Mr. Thiessen!
Valentine's Day is one to reflect on showing kindness to each other here at school. Each class will celebrate in their own special way so look out for details from your child’s teacher. In addition, more information about Winter Fun day will arrive later this month too. Our major hope is that February brings warmer weather than January - but not too warm because we will need our snow!
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
We would like to share that Mrs. Jonelle Koop-Yumang, our Vice Principal will be beginning her maternity leave in February. We are so excited for her and wish her all the very best during this special time! While she is away, we are pleased to welcome Mrs. Jaime Thompson, who will be stepping in as our new Vice Principal. She will be moving into this role from her current position as a Learning Support teacher. We are grateful for her willingness to step into this leadership role and know she will be a wonderful support to our students, staff, and families.
SCHOOL REMINDERS
As our school has grown a lot in the past few months the office has become a very busy place! Here are a few reminders for parents/guardians:
Lunch/Snacks - Students are expected to supply their own cutlery if needed for their lunch or snack. Please keep this in mind when packing their food for the day.
Bus Loop Procedures - For safety reasons, there is NO driving in the bus loop from
8 am to 5 pm. This includes student pick ups and drop offs.
Attendance - As every student must be accounted for, parents/guardians need to let the school know if your child will not be attending school. This can be done conveniently through Parent Portal, phone call to the school office at (204) 326-6622 (please leave a voicemail if needed), email to mes@hsd.ca or SeeSaw to the homeroom teacher.
Home time Arrangements - You must phone the school before 2:30 pm if requesting a change in home time arrangements (e.g. Please do not put my child on the bus. I will pick him/her up after school). As the office is very busy at the end of the school day, we cannot guarantee that messages will be delivered in time if received after 2:30 pm.
Daytime Pickups - If you are picking your child up during the school day, check in at the office and the secretary will call him/her to meet you at the office. For safety reasons visitors are not to proceed down the hallways unless the office is aware and you have signed in. Please note that while calling ahead is helpful, there may be times when the office/classroom are busy and we are unable to have your child ready immediately upon arrival.
Medication - According to Hanover Policy, no medication, not even Tylenol, should be sent to school. If medication is needed, parents may come to school to give it to their child.
STUDENT FEES OVERDUE
We still have quite a few students that have not paid their school fees. Please pay online on Parent Portal or bring exact cash or a cheque payable to MES to the school office.
Kindergarten $50
Grade 1 $50
Grade 1/2L $30
Grade 2 $30
Grade 3 $30
Grade 4 $40
I LOVE TO READ!
February is I Love to Read Month. Our theme this year is the Winter Olympics. Students will be encouraged to read every day after school, starting January 28. Every time they read for a certain length of time (depending on their grade level) they will receive a point for their class. Please fill in the reading tickets that the students take home so that they will get their reading points and be entered to win the reading prizes. There will be a weekly draw for book prizes. The class who has the most points at the end of the month will win a dodgeball game against the teachers. As well there will be a draw at the end of the month for grand prizes. We hope this will be a month filled with the enjoyment of reading!
Here are some other exciting I Love to Read activities planned for the month:
