Boundary Planning Update
At the January 15th Board meeting, the Davis School Board Trustees received an analysis of the community outreach feedback on two potential concepts for managing the “worst-case” declines in district enrollment. Trustees also started a discussion about the strategic objectives, guiding assumptions and next round of community outreach. A video of the presentation and a new dynamic FAQ with information and data tables responding to questions from our community are available at www.djusd.net/BoundaryOutreach. We encourage our community to stay engaged in this important discussion. Additional opportunities for community feedback are expected in 2026 and into 2027, with a final Board of Education decision anticipated in spring 2027. Any approved changes would take effect no earlier than the 2028-29 school year. Learn more about the challenge and planning at www.djusd.net/Boundaries_Planning.
✨SACSE in DJUSD Is Growing and We Want You at the Table
DJUSD’s Superintendent’s Advisory Committee for Special Education (SACSE) continues to grow, with strong and meaningful participation from parents, administrators and specialists. At our most recent meeting, we were also pleased to welcome student participants who are elevating student voices at Emerson Junior High School and helping to shape truly inclusive experiences for peers with disabilities.
With guest speaker Janelle Mercado from Supporting Innovative and Inclusive Practices (SIP), the committee explored how early segregation can lead to continued separation in adulthood, why placement and location matter for long term community participation, and how ableism can show up in systems, language and daily school practices (view the January 7, 2026 SACSE slide deck).
As momentum builds, we hope to expand representation from community members, families, general education teachers and staff, special education teachers and paraprofessionals. Come learn, share and be part of this important work. SACSE meets the first Wednesday of each month from 4:30-6:00 p.m. The join link is found on the website, or refer back here: Link to Join the SACSE meeting Meeting ID: 276 321 842 771 3 Passcode: Xw3bi9zg.

Bright Spots: Mr. Hess’ Fire Pit Project
Students in the Ag Mechanics Pathway at Davis Senior High School are applying their skills through Mr. Hess' Firepit Project, a hands-on CTE experience that prepares students for careers and future studies. The project challenges students to design and build a functional fire pit within specific requirements and a set timeframe. As they plan, problem-solve and adapt to challenges, students strengthen critical thinking and decision-making skills. Judged by academic and industry professionals, the finished projects showcase both technical ability and real world readiness.
DVJH Students Take Physics for a Ride!
The new year brings a brand-new project to Da Vinci Junior High! Eighth Grade students are working towards answering the driving question: “How can we use physics to build the ultimate roller coaster?” So far, students have learned Newton's laws and how to calculate speed, velocity, acceleration, and momentum. They have also selected their special challenge that they must incorporate into their final roller coaster design. Next, they designed a 1:1 scale blueprint to help them start building, considering how Newton's Laws will impact the design of their own roller coasters. They will build models of the coaster, using marbles to mimic the rider’s experience. These coasters will be showcased at a DVJH signature event at 6pm on February 18th. Everyone is welcome to join and test these roller coaster models.

Prioritizing Our Health and Safety
Reaffirming our We All Belong Resolution
In 2017, the Board of Education adopted the We All Belong Resolution resolution which emphasizes the District’s commitment to an inclusive environment and especially emphasized our commitment to our community’s undocumented students and families. The proposed resolution covers the following points related to immigration enforcement:
Any federal immigration official who appears on our campuses asking to see a student or staff member, or requesting information about a student or staff member, must be directed to the Superintendent’s office for review of the purpose and legality of their visit.
Any person trying to serve legal process paperwork (warrant, subpoena, request for records, etc.) will be referred to the District office, regardless of the purpose.
The District does not ask about a student’s immigration status or collect information regarding a student’s and/or family’s immigration status when enrolling a student in the District.
Specifically, our campus staff are instructed to notify the District Office immediately if an ICE or other law enforcement officer comes to campus with immigration-related queries. The officer will be required to provide a copy of their ID and paperwork and asked to wait until a District Office administrator arrives. Staff will not provide the officer any information about a student’s enrollment or attendance at school that day. Additional information can be found in What to Do if an Immigration Enforcement Officer Comes to Your School.
Road Safety - Know the Rules: Bikes, E-Bikes and Scooters
As we see an increase in the use of e-bikes and e-scooters around town, it’s important to remember that different types of devices follow different rules. Speed limits, where you can ride, and helmet requirements can vary depending on age and what you’re riding. To stay informed, visit the City of Davis transportation page and under Policies and Procedures, view the “California Laws for Bikes, E-bikes, E-Scooters, and more” section. Many of you may be surprised to learn that a driver’s license is required for the standup electric scooters. Knowing the rules helps keep everyone safer on our shared roads. If you are ever in need of a helmet, inquire at your school’s front office.

Priorizar nuestra salud y seguridad
