Together We Rise: Updates from the Principal
9/26/2025
A Message from Dr. Delgado:
Next week we welcome the month of October and with it, some exciting opportunities for our students and families. On Tuesday, October 1st, we will have Fall Picture Day. Please help your student come prepared, looking their best, so we can capture those ever-so-precious school day memories. As a parent myself, I treasure my own children’s school pictures and the way they tell the story of their growing-up years.
We are also excited to launch our free Adult English Classes beginning Monday, September 29th. These will be held every Monday through Wednesday from 5:00–6:30 p.m. through December 3rd. This is a wonderful chance for parents to strengthen their English skills while connecting with our school community. We are especially appreciative of our PfISD Multilingual Department, along with our INCA Coordinator, Hannah Davis, and INCA Instructional Coach, Andrea Larson, for putting these classes together and helping us support our families in their journey toward English proficiency.
Another new opportunity is our Adult Computer Classes, led by our own Electives Department Chair and technology teacher, Mr. Leroy Barriga. These classes will begin on Thursday, October 9th, and continue every Thursday from 5:00–6:30 p.m. through December 11th in one of our computer labs. We are so grateful to Mr. Barriga for sharing his expertise and supporting our families in developing these valuable skills.
I am also proud to share that Westview was recently recognized for making significant gains in student attendance, outpacing many middle schools in the district. For this accomplishment, we have been awarded $1,000 to be used toward incentives for perfect and improved attendance. Attendance is the foundation of student success, and your partnership in ensuring students arrive on time and ready to learn each day is vital.
Finally, our academic data from district assessments is showing encouraging progress as we close achievement gaps compared to other campuses. As a school, we are striving to be at least “middle of the pack” among PfISD middle schools this year—and with your continued support, we know our Wildcats will rise even higher.
Together, we are building a strong, connected community where every student can thrive. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey.
Westview Middle School Turnaround Plan Feedback
📢 Seeking Parent & Community Input: Campus Turnaround Plan (TAP)
Westview Middle School has received an F rating for the past three years, which requires us to submit a Turnaround Plan (TAP) to the state. It is vital that the voices of our parents, families, and community members are included in shaping this plan for the future of our Wildcats.
Please take a moment to complete the brief survey linked below to provide your input.
Additionally, if you would like to share more detailed feedback in person, we invite you to attend our CAAC/Community Meeting on Wednesday, September 10th at 5:00 p.m. in the Wildcat Library.
✅ Your voice matters—help us shape a stronger future for Westview!
A Message from the Counselors

Schedule Changes
Thank you for your patience and support as we worked through schedule changes at the start of the school year. As a reminder, we stopped accepting schedule change requests on Friday, September 5th.
At this point, no schedule changes will be made without administrator approval.
We appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain consistency for our students. Together, we can ensure that every Wildcat is set up for success this school year!

Parent Action Required: New Consent Forms for Student Health & Counseling Services
Texas Senate Bill 12, passed by the 89th Legislature and signed into law in June 2025, now requires parents to provide written consent for students to receive health and counseling services in schools.
This law mandates:
-
Annual consent forms for routine health, social, and mental wellness services.
-
Clarification on when additional consent or opt-out is required for other health-related services.
👉 Important: At this time, all consent forms must be completed online in Skyward. On Friday, all parents should have received both an email and a text with directions for completing this process.
Please note:
-
Students will not be able to see the school counselor or nurse without this consent in place.
-
It is imperative that all parents complete this form online as quickly as possible so that students do not experience an interruption in receiving care.
We also recognize that this process may be easier for some families than others. To support you, we will be offering:
Parent Assistance Daily at School
Upon parent request, staff will be available to help families complete these forms onsite so that every student has access to the health and counseling services they need.
Thank you for your partnership in making sure our Wildcats are cared for both academically and personally.
Cell Phones Must Stay Put Away
If students are seen in possession of or using a cell phone, we will apply the following consequences:
-
1st Offense: Device confiscated, returned only to a parent/guardian
-
2nd Offense: Device confiscated + lunch detention (documented in Skyward)
-
3rd Offense: Device confiscated + half-day of ISS + parent meeting
-
Chronic Issues: May result in a full day of ISS, a behavior plan, or temporary ban of the device on campus
We ask all parents to remind your child to keep their cell phone turned off and stored in their backpack or personal belongings throughout the school day. By working together, we can ensure our students remain focused on learning without distractions.

Safety Protocols
🎟️ Student ID Badges
A reminder that all students are required to wear their ID badge every day while on campus. This important safety measure helps us ensure that everyone in the building belongs here and allows us to keep all students safe at all times.
We ask for your support in reminding your child not to leave the house without their ID badge each morning. If a student has lost their badge, they should report to the office to request a replacement. Please note that replacement ID badges cost $5.00. Please use the link below to pre-pay for a replacement ID badge.
Thank you for helping us keep Westview a safe and secure place for learning!
Community Eligibility Provision Form (CEP)
Everyone Must Complete a CEP Form
All families are asked to complete a CEP form for this school year. This process is vital to ensuring that our school receives the funding and resources needed to best serve our students.
If you have not yet submitted your form—or if you’re unsure whether you have—please print the form linked below, complete it and return it to the school. You may also take a picture of the completed form and email it to us at Amanda.Vela@PfISD.net.
Thank you for helping us support Westview with the resources our students deserve!
No Food Deliveries from Restaurant Food
As a reminder, restaurant food deliveries are not allowed during the school day. If you would like your child to enjoy a meal from a restaurant, you are welcome to:
-
Sign your student out and enjoy lunch with them off campus, or
-

After lunch, students can be signed back in to continue their school day.

Attendance Matters
Help your child start strong this school year! 🏫✨
- Our Year to Date Attendance is 93.8%.
- 6th Grade = 94.79%
- 7th Grade = 93.58%
- 8th Grade = 92.93%
- Try to schedule doctor and dentist appointments after school or in the afternoon so your child can be counted present.
- Every school day matters—just a few missed days can add up quickly.
Thank you for partnering with us to make every day count for your child’s success! 💙
Perfect Attendance Contest 🥧✨
We’re excited to share a fun new contest that began last week! All students who achieve perfect attendance between September 15 – October 13 will have their names entered into a special drawing.
The lucky winners will get the chance to put a pie in the face of the Assistant Principal of their choice—all in good fun, of course! This lighthearted event will take place during lunch and is sure to bring plenty of smiles and laughter to our Wildcats.
While the contest adds an element of fun, it also highlights the importance of being present every day. Attendance plays a big role in student success, and we appreciate your partnership in encouraging your child to be at school, on time, every day.
Let’s keep up the great attendance, and we can’t wait to see who gets to deliver the pie surprise!
Tardy Consequences Issued Beginning Monday, September 8th
⏰ Tardy Policy Update
We want to remind everyone that we have begun issuing consequences for student tardies. If you have received an email from us regarding your child’s tardies, please take a moment to talk with them about the importance of being on time before consequences escalate to detention or ISS.
Arriving to class on time not only helps students avoid consequences, but it also directly impacts their learning, focus, and overall success as a student. Thank you for your support in reinforcing this important expectation at home!
Fall Picture Day is Coming!!
Attention 8th Grade Parents: PSAT on October 22nd
All 8th grade students at Westview Middle School will take the PSAT on October 22, 2025. This is a valuable opportunity for students to get their first exposure to a college-entrance exam, and to begin building readiness for high school and beyond.
Why the PSAT Matters for 8th Graders
According to the College Board’s PSAT 8/9 resources:
-
The PSAT 8/9 assesses reading, writing, and math skills appropriate for 8th and 9th graders. It measures the kinds of critical thinking and problem solving students are already working to build in class. BigFuture
-
It helps establish a baseline of college and career readiness. Knowing where one stands in these academic areas early allows students, parents, and teachers to see strengths and areas to improve. k12.collegeboard.org+1
-
The results also help inform instruction — meaning teachers can use the score data to support students in specific skills where they might need extra help. k12.collegeboard.org+1
-
It builds familiarity with the format of standardized tests. Taking the PSAT in 8th grade introduces students to test features like time limits, question types, test structure, which can reduce anxiety in later tests. Online SAT / ACT Prep Blog+1
What This Means for Our Students
-
No stakes, just growth: The PSAT in 8th grade is not used for college admission or scholarship qualification. Its purpose is to inform and guide.
-
Feedback for improvement: Students will receive score reports showing what they did well and what they can work on. This feedback can help guide study, help from teachers, or use of prep resources.
-
Getting a head start: Families and students can use this early feedback to plan courses, set learning goals, and become comfortable with assessment formats.
We encourage all parents and students to view this PSAT exam as a tool for growth. Help your child get enough rest, eat well, and come ready to do their best. If you have questions about how to interpret PSAT results or how to support your student, feel free to reach out to our counseling department.
