Harvest of the Month

On Thursday, Commit to Be Fit was thrilled to welcome Ms. Liz Beling, Regional Farm to School Liaison, back to RCES to lead a Harvest of the Month taste test for students. This month's featured harvest, lettuce, was featured in a mandarin orange and lettuce salad with poppy seed dressing. Yum!

Fun in ABL

The ABL Lab continues to be a hit with students! Movement is fun and promotes healthy bodies and minds. Pictured above: the student performed "bunny hops" on the boomer board. This movement increases proprioception (body in space) while providing cardio.

Improve Your Air Quality

Be sure to check and change your air filters regularly. Filters help improve air quality by trapping bacteria, spores, pollen, dust, dirt, pet dander, and other molecules you wouldn't want to inhale. Generally, it is recommended that air filters in your home be replaced every one to three months. Since it's an easy thing to forget, mark your calendar each month as a reminder to check them to make sure they aren't too dirty. This will ensure that clean air is circulated throughout your home, which will help to keep your family feeling healthier during flu and allergy seasons.

Take a Walk for Your Well-Being

The recent sunshine and 80-degree days make it easier to get outdoors to exercise or take a stroll. Did you know that being outdoors can improve your mental well-being? Studies have shown spending time in nature can combat anxiety and depression. A short walk will do on days you can’t fit in a long walk outside. Take the time to step away for a quick outside stroll to decompress, and reset your mood. Cultivate mindfulness by taking in the fresh air, sights, and sounds. I will leave you with a famous quote “In all things of nature, there is something of the marvelous.” – Aristotle
