Science in action! 🧪✨ Science in action! 🧪✨

On Thursday, October 1st, our Advanced 6th Grade Science classes headed to the Science Museum for a full day of discovery and fun.

A major favorite was catching Pandas in the Omnitheater—giant-screen learning at its best! 🐼🎬

So proud of our curious young scientists! Check out a few photos from our day:

The Falcon Nest Food Shelf – Monthly Distribution The Falcon Nest Food Shelf – Monthly Distribution

We are excited to remind our school community about "The Falcon Nest", an on-site food shelf located right here in our school building that provides free food and groceries to our families.

Through our partnership with Hope for the Community, we host a free distribution on the **fourth Tuesday of each month** throughout the school year (September through May).

Distribution Details
When: Every fourth Tuesday of the month | 3:15 PM – 5:15 PM
Where: Park in the south lot or near the curb and enter through Door 10.

How It Works
Registration: First-time visitors will complete a brief form (name, household size, zip code, and signature) that registers your family for the full school year.

Bags: We will provide reusable red Hope for the Community bags on your first visit. Please keep these and bring them back with you for future monthly distributions.

Selection: Groceries, fresh produce, proteins, and pantry staples are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Need Additional Resources?
If you ever need resources outside of our monthly school schedule, you are also welcome to visit the main Hope for the Community site in Blaine for their weekly Thursday curbside pickup from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

HOSA – Future Health Professionals HOSA – Future Health Professionals

We are excited to share a potential new opportunity for students at Coon Rapids Middle School! We are working toward bringing HOSA – Future Health Professionals – to our middle school to help students explore careers in healthcare, develop leadership skills, and gain valuable experiences.

What is HOSA?

HOSA is an international, student-led organization that helps students explore careers in healthcare and medicine. It provides opportunities to develop teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills. HOSA is not just for students who want to become doctors or nurses. It introduces students to many different careers in the medical field.

What Would Students Do in HOSA?

Our goal is to make HOSA an engaging and educational experience. Some activities we hope to offer include:

  • Fun, hands-on activities related to healthcare and science.

  • Learning about different medical careers and their responsibilities.

  • Leadership opportunities and team-building activities.

  • Mentorship and activities with high school HOSA members.

  • Community service projects and opportunities to help others.

  • Exploring HOSA competitions and conferences when available.

Why Bring HOSA to Middle School?

Introducing HOSA at an earlier age gives students the opportunity to discover their interests before entering high school. It can help students build confidence, develop friendships, and gain skills that will benefit them throughout their education.

Students do not need previous medical knowledge or experience to be interested in HOSA. We want to create a welcoming environment where students can learn, ask questions, and explore new opportunities.

How Can Students Get Involved?

We are currently exploring the possibility of bringing HOSA to Coon Rapids Middle School and would love to hear from interested students and families. Additional information about meeting times, activities, and participation will be shared as plans are finalized.

We hope to make HOSA a fun and meaningful experience for students interested in learning more about healthcare and leadership.

I appreciate your support!

Coon Rapids High School HOSA

Testing Update Testing Update

Parents/Guardians; CRMS will administer the FAST Test, and Capti Test in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. The FAST Test has two focus areas; reading and math (aReading & aMath). The Capti test is a reading assessment test. Your student will undergo FAST testing during the month of September in their respective classes (Math and ELA). The exact dates will be decided upon by the classroom teacher. You’ll likely receive correspondence from the classroom teacher via our messaging system. The Capti Test will take place in ELA classes and will be after MEA within the last two weeks of October (these exact dates are also decided by the classroom teacher). The FAST and Capti Tests will take 1-2 class periods, is electronic (chromebook/computer), and requires headphones that wire into the device (bluetooth/wireless headphones are not permitted). Please ensure your student brings a pair of wired headphones for the FAST Test and Capti Test this year. Additional messaging will be sent when we enter the Winter Testing Sessions.

Community Partners Team Up for Long-Term Safety Solution at CRHS Crosswalk Community Partners Team Up for Long-Term Safety Solution at CRHS Crosswalk

Anoka County, the City of Coon Rapids, and Anoka-Hennepin Schools are partnering on a comprehensive plan to improve pedestrian safety along Northdale Boulevard at Coon Rapids High School.

Why It Matters This crosswalk serves as the main daily pathway connecting students, staff, families, and community members to the school building, parking areas, stadium, and athletic fields. Because so many students cross this busy corridor before and after school and during evening events, establishing a safe, permanent solution is a top priority for our entire school community. Ongoing pedestrian safety concerns along Northdale Boulevard at Coon Rapids High School have brought Anoka County, City of Coon Rapids and Anoka-Hennepin staff together to form an long-term action plan for pedestrian safety at this location.

Action Plan & Next Steps Building on $458,000 in state-funded Safe Routes to School improvements completed in 2023 (which added flashing beacons, school zone signage, enhanced lighting, and crosswalk realignment), project partners have agreed on two key phases:

  • Short-Term Plan: The city and county are working on immediate solutions to slow traffic and alert drivers to the pedestrian crossing spaces crossing Northdale Boulevard.

  • Long-Term Plan: Developing a permanent solution to eliminate the street-level crossing entirely, safely separating pedestrian traffic from vehicles.

Daily safety support will continue through the Coon Rapids Police Department and Anoka-Hennepin crossing guards. Additional updates will be shared as detailed plans are finalized.
