Nichols Leadership Academy News #4
A Leader in Me School
Sunday Announcement!
Hello Navigators!
We had a great week of school and the students are in settled into regular routines. We held expectation discussions in every classroom so students know expected behaviors to ensure our campus continues to function in a safe and orderly manner.
Remember there is no school tomorrow, Monday, September 1st, in recognition of Labor Day.
Our PTO will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, September 3rd at 6 PM. We will discuss fundraising and events for the year. I hope to see you there.
Mark your calendar for September 10th when we will hold our Back to School Night from 5:30-7 PM.
Please remember to send students in appropriate foot wear. We have a lot of students wearing Crocs and other similar types of shoes that are not safe for playground play.
We have had many dogs being brought to campus at dismissal. Please refrain from doing this as it is a board policy to not have dogs, aside from service dogs, on campus.
Parent collaboration is very important and we want to work closely together to support all students. Arrival and dismissal are difficult times for teachers to have meaningful conversations about student. If you want to meet with your child's teacher please set an appointment with them.
If you want to purchase insurance for your student's device there is a low cost device insurance available. See this flier for more information.
For TK and Kindergarten dismissal be at 2:10 PM, except for Wednesday when dismissal is 12:25. Please reach out with any questions.
Our parking lot can be quite a challenge before and after school. Please be extra careful during pick up and drop off so that the safety of everyone is a priority. Please remember not to park in disabled parking unless you are legally allowed. Also, please refrain from parking in the red zones at the rear of the parking lot.
Please remember we are not able to accept outside food for classroom celebrations. Food for class parties need to be ordered through our cafeteria at least one week in advance. If you want the class to celebrate an event speak with the teacher for ideas. Goodie bags with pencils, erasers and small items, versus candy and food is best.
Please note you can always reply to the email portion of this message to communicate with me and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Can't wait to see everyone. Have a great night!
Community News
Starting in the 2025–2026 school year, all students who plan to ride a bike to school and park it on an OUSD campus must apply for a free E-Bike permit. This process ensures students are educated on safe biking practices. A permit is required to bring an E-Bike onto school grounds.
Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe!
Steps to Complete to ride an E-Bike on any OUSD campus
To ensure the safety of all students riding to school, please complete the following steps:
1. Complete the liability waiver (Data confirmation)
2. Complete the OUSD-approved -Bike Safety Course online: CHP Online Certification
3. Complete the Online Bicycle Permit Application with a Parent or Guardian
4. It is highly encouraged that students register their E-Bike on Project 529 for free in the event their bike is lost or stolen.
PERMIT STICKER MUST BE PLACED ON THE HANDLEBARS!!!
Meal Accommodations:
We are working to gather the Medical Meal Accommodation forms for the 2025–26 school year.
These forms must be submitted to our Nutrition Services Department each school year for any student who requires meal modifications. This applies to both new and returning students.
Per USDA requirements, medical statements must be updated annually, even if a student’s condition or accommodation has not changed. This ensures we have the most accurate documentation to support each student’s needs.
Parents or legal guardians are responsible for submitting completed forms to both the district nurse and the Nutrition Services Department. Forms must be signed by a licensed medical provider to be considered valid.
Reach out with any questions or for any assistance.

Safety Enhancement System
Hello Nichols Families,
After successfully piloting a school safety and audio system at two of our schools during the 23-24 school year, at the June 2024 Board of Education meeting, the Board approved installing this system at all OUSD schools.
This enhancement serves as an update to our current bell and intercom system. Each classroom teacher will have a device on a lanyard that amplifies sound throughout the
classroom during every lesson. Every student, no matter where they sit, will be able to clearly hear the teacher and information being taught.
Along with audio and video capabilities, the new device incorporates a safety notification button to alert administration and front offices of any emergency situation. In the event of a classroom emergency, the teacher can activate the camera for office staff to view the situation. The device identifies the exact location to initiate school safety protocols. Further, and only in the event of a lockdown or active shooter emergency, Oceanside Police Department can utilize these same cameras to access views into classrooms and throughout the school.
Thank you for your constant support as we work to provide a safe and modern learning
environment for all! Slide Deck with more information.
