Transition Tidbits
September 2023
Southeast Ohio Transition Council (SOTC)
In-person: October 31, 2023 and February 15, 2024
During the 2023-24 school year, the council will meet twice in person and focus on The Taxonomy for Transition Programming 2.0 (Kohler, Gothberg, Fowler, and Coyle, 2016) which builds upon earlier work and provides research-based practices for implementing transition-focused education.
The model has five primary practice categories:
10/31/23 - Student-Focused Planning, Student Development,
2/15/24 - Interagency Collaboration, Family Engagement,
and Program Structure (to be embedded in October and February sessions).
Spotlight Resource
A new Students with IEPs Graduation Decision-Making Tool and video will be posted on the ODE page, Students with IEPs and Graduation, by October 6.
This tool can assist the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team to determine if a student with an IEP has met or will meet graduation requirements following a typical pathway and when the student must exit secondary school.
Career Tech Corner
Welcome, Beth Duffy, SST 16 CTPD (Career Technical Planning District) Consultant!
Hello! My name is Beth Duffy and I’ll be joining State Support Team Region 16 as the Career Technical Planning District Consultant officially on October 1.
2023 is significant as it marks my 40th year as a public servant: 12 years of active service in the United States Army, and 27 years of combined teaching experience in North Carolina, Virginia and Ohio as a special education teacher, literacy coach, instructional leader, curriculum director, federal programs coordinator and state school improvement consultant.
During my free time, I enjoy traveling, hiking, gardening and spending time with my husband, Brian, three children, and eight grandchildren.
I look forward to meeting each of you and to begin the process of building collaborative partnerships to ensure students in our region are provided with high quality career-technical experiences in preparation for their future.
I can be reached at: beth.duffy@sst16.org
Career-tech inspires students to identify paths to future success and provides students opportunities to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary for high school graduation and beyond. Students learn through career exploration, taking college courses and earning industry credentials. They receive customized learning that aligns their passions and interests to their career aspirations. The ODE Webpage has lots of great resources!
